An Aurora police officer, Daniel Bertelson, sent a department-wide email this month as he announced his retirement, offering some barbs and harsh assessments of the current climate for law enforcement.
“I am leaving Colorado for palm trees and less communism,” wrote Bertelson, who spent 16 years with the Aurora Police Department.
“Try to ignore the politicians and media,” he wrote to his colleagues. “They know nothing of this profession or honor; they’re self-serving con artists, well-dressed pimps and prostitutes at best.”
The number of officers leaving APD has been increasing in recent years, jumping more than 60% from 2019 to 2020. That comes as the city is also seeing rising crime rates, a trend seen in other Colorado cities and across the country.

Watch. The leftists will try and poison-pill his new job.
Portland has a lot of openings
Hmm...rising crime and departing officers, eh? They should try raising taxes, defunding the police, and hiring more social workers. And raising welfare so the poor oppressed masses won’t have to steal liquor and cigarettes to feed their kiddies.
All you can say is that Aurora isn’t as bad as denver, yet.
‘pub mayor.
He’s retiring.
“Try to ignore the politicians and media.”
Good advice. Difficult to do when working in a communist state. Rosaries are the best weapon against selfish, childish communists who have zero respect for the Bible, the Bill of Rights and free markets.
The plan is to force all the good police to quit so they can hire new, young, cheaper woke police that will do as they are told.
It’s really the same with the military. Those in the military are now working/fighting for liars, cheats, criminals and Communist.
Or federalize all PD.
No pesky local control then.
Seems like got his government pension then walked. That is always the easiest way, and why not much changes. I suspect it’s a nice pension and he was part of a union. He dislikes commies though.
Glad it didn’t turn him bitter like I am.
I don’t understand/don’t countenance your disparagement of this truth telling officer.
There is no pension. Just an inadequately funded 401. And he was part of a union, but in Colorado they’re essentially relegated to weak attempts to make departments follow due process on discipline. He retired, but thats just a status withe the department (one step up from resigned). I’m sure he’s moving on to a better industry. I have no doubt he will have to work at least another 10-15 years.
So this officer would have been more virtuous if he had walked away six months before retirement ?
I’m SURE you would sacrifice as much, right?
(”I got my two cents worth in, but I lost my pension, so I won. “ ) right?
He’s just mad about the legal weed.
Mmhmm. Just a few people controlling all the law enforcement in the country. What could be simpler or more efficient. It should work great. /s
And all wear the same uniform. And all get their paychecks from Washington DC, 20001.
“Seems like got his government pension then walked. That is always the easiest way, and why not much changes. I suspect it’s a nice pension and he was part of a union. He dislikes commies though.”
The union was there first. Perhaps he should never have become a cop since there was a union? Now all cops in cities with unions are no good under you fanciful purity ideas.
