The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER
1st word by letter pattern.
2nd word after the colon.
Author's name, recognized the quote, off to the races.

Ilse d'If, where the Comte de Monte-Cristo was imprisoned.
That would be very very subtle without the caption :)
Maybe too subtle? I gave it some thought.
Haven’t had much luck, lately. Thanks for that hint!
“Wer fremde Sprachen nicht kennt, weiß nichts von seiner eigenen” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Yes. I was stumped until I saw the author’s name appearing. Was ready to throw in the towel.
I used HAL, and the first word was the obvious one, then when I noticed the pattern with the name, it just fell into place.
True, nice :-)
I don’t know if I agree with today’s cryptogram
The first word was easy, and there just aren’t that many words that make sense following directly after that first word.
Same for the third word following the first two words.
This puzzle was solved less by word patterns, and more by set a certain structure and context.
Well, when you’re obsessing about something, and you’re young, those two words
are at the forefront of your life. As you get older and acquire more patience and confidence, those words take on a different meaning.
I would have added the word “PRAY”.
Hmmm...
I guess it depends on what you’re hoping and waiting for.
For example, there is much wisdom in hoping for positive political change - but I don’t think it’s wise to wait for it.
Something like Heaven? It’s definitely wise to wait. :-)
