MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Brendon Hrepic says he is still shocked that COVID-19 caught up with him when WEWS spoke with him via Zoom from his hospital bed.

“The doctor that I saw at the ER was like ‘you are literally the worse case that I’ve ever seen post-vaccination,’” said Hrepic.

The 31-year-old essential worker from Mayfield Heights said he did everything right throughout the pandemic, from social distancing to masking up.

You have posted a lot of advocacy in your short time here.

How did you clear your post record on FR? I can see where I posted to you prior to 7 May 2021, but it’s deleted on your side?

I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about when you say “clear your post record”? I don’t have any control over the website. Maybe there’s a limit to how many posts appear in history? No idea.

Thanks for the response. We have 4 variants in my county, here are what they call the largest two in case load (74 and 40, county has 157k pop):

B.1.1.7 B.1.427/429

That’s what they call them, I heard one is from India.

Do you know anything about those numbers or the India variant?

Thanks in advance.

Have a nice day.

B.1.1.7 is the UK variant. Definitely spreads faster than the April 2020 variant (which has been the dominant variant through most of the world from April 2020 until just recently). The UK variant -may- carry a slightly higher risk of death, but the studies are mixed on this. If there is any higher mortality with the UK variant, it’s so small that it’s difficult to measure. Not a big worry there.

B.1.427/429 are two California variants. They show higher contagiousness (but not as high as the UK variant). The only studies I’ve seen regarding the severity of these showed the potential for more severe illness (e.g. 5-10 times higher risk of severe illness and death), but those studies were NOT large enough or well controlled enough to make any definitive statements about. In other words, it’s POSSIBLE they cause more severe illness, but they also may not. And given that the UK variant spreads more readily, they’ll probably be crowded out by that.

The vaccines available in the US provide significant protection against all of those variants. If you’re vaccinated or you’ve had a previous serious COVID-19 infection, your risk from any of them should be very low.

Thank you for your service!

And here I thought you and I had moved past this disrespectful repartee. Our last few interactions were darn near cordial. We don’t have to agree to be polite to (and about) each other.

If you feel like you can’t hope to understand, I’ve failed in my goal, which is always to help people who want to learn more. I try to provide accurate information from authoritative sources. I think that’s a good thing to do.

If I click “My Comments (self-search)” and click Next Page enough times, I can definitely go back before May 7 (I checked back to April 30). No idea why your search doesn’t bring up more.

I remember reading that the vaccine was 95-98% effective in preventing COVID-19 when exposed, not that it was perfect.

President Trump also endorsed Mitt Romney for the US Senate. Nobody is perfect.

It IS an important tool that helps people drastically reduce their individual risk.

In this case, it's an unteasted tool that people are demanding be mandatory for everybody. Then when someone objects, they are attacked and belittled because "muh science!", just like people that point out the uselessness of surgical masks in protecting against a virus. The pro-Covid shot and mask people act like they are in a cult.

"In this case, it's an unteasted tool"

Clinical trials began in humans back on March 16, 2020, over a year ago. Since that time, full Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 clinical trials were completed in the US and in countries around the world. For just the three vaccines authorized in the US right now, clinical trials included over 100,000 participants. To say they are "untested" is incorrect.

"people are demanding be mandatory for everybody."

Who is demanding that? I haven't seen anyone here demanding it. President Trump certainly didn't. Even Biden has said they will not be mandatory. I haven't seen any US state or local government try and mandate anyone get vaccinated. If they do, I'll absolutely oppose that action. Everyone should have the option to get safe and effective vaccines, but nobody should be forced to do so. Private businesses may decide to require people working for them or getting their products or services to be vaccinated. That's on them what they require on their own private property.

"when someone objects, they are attacked and belittled because "muh science!","

I point out when someone makes a statement which is objectively false and I provide documentation from authoritative sources proving that point. But if someone says "I understand the risks, I know about the vaccines, and I don't think they're right for me", then good for them. I 100% respect the decision and support each person's right to make it. But if that person says they don't want the vaccines because they have alien DNA in them or Bill Gates mind control microchips, I'm going to point out that such claims are ridiculous.

It's a take-off on the slogan at the gates of Auschwitz:

Arbeit Macht Frei [Work Makes You Free]

Just another Fascist lie, so I applied it to this Fascist lie:

"The Fear Makes You Free"

Which, of course, it doesn't.  winking face
