Turkey season in Tennessee ended on a repulsive note for one unlucky hunter.
Inside it’s crop were dozens of cicadas, dead but completely intact, their beady red eyes staring out from the bird.
Don’t let anything go to waste, one commenter suggested: “Smoked Turkey breast and chocolate covered cicadas for dessert.”
“Cicadas, it’s what’s for dinner!” wrote another.

Brood X is on the radar and we have the snow shovels ready.
My son-in-law was out for turkeys but only saw one. No turkey, no cicadas.

I suppose their readers expect that turkeys should be vegetarians.

Clickbait closes with the following:
“Turkeys that survived the hunting season should have plenty to eat.”

Silly people, birds eating cicadas should help preserve some fruit crops from birdy predation.

Kind of my thought, too. Did he expect to find the bird’s crop filled with watercress sandwiches and petit fours?

I caught a 335 pound halibut and her belly contained a 10 lb. cod, two dungeness crabs, a small salmon and a bunch of crushed cockle clams. Had to shoot her with a .22 to get her on board without wrecking the boat. This was commercial, not sport.
Being out west I've never seen or heard a cicada.
