Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, who was fired in 2018 after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, is once again working for law enforcement, but in a lesser role this time around.
Israel will monitor traffic through red light cameras and will appear in court if a person wishes to challenge their ticket, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
He was the only candidate interviewed for the job out of three applicants and will receive a salary of $65,000.
A spokesperson at the police department Israel was recently hired by told CBS Miami:
He has been given a conditional offer subject to the hiring process.
The local police chief at Israel's new job in the city of Davie is Stephen Kinsey, who was Israel’s undersheriff in Broward County.
Israel’s deputies were scrutinized in 2018 for not taking action at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while a shooter killed 17 people and injured an additional 17.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended Israel in 2019, shortly after taking office. Kinsey, along with four other Broward County police resigned shortly after Israel's dismissal.
DeSantis appointed Gregory Tony to take over the Broward Sheriff’s Office after he fired Israel. Tony beat Israel in the Democratic primary for the position in August 2020 and then won the general election.
Kinsey became Davie’s police chief in September 2020.
The school shooter will face the death penalty if he were to be convicted of the killings. His lawyers have said he would plead guilty in exchange for life in prison sentence. However, prosecutors have rejected that as they are eyeing an execution.
In other words, he’s not in prison and he still has a job.
I do not find anything to belittle with being a traffic cop. That is a fi e profession and not worthy of ridicule in any form.
He is not a traffic cop. He is a camera cop. No doubt this job was created just for him at the expense of taxpayers.
This Broward country...and full investigation into everyone associated with Israel’s hiring.
Schadenfreude
What judge should accept the word of this coward - who lied on national TV about his location and the shooting location - over any citizen?
How much trouble?
The citizens can forget about ever challenging an illegal red light camera traffic ticket.
I think you’re confusing Israel with one of his (former) deputies who hid like a coward while kids were being murdered.
Israel was, instead, a political a-hole who also happened to be the County Sheriff at the time and lied like a rug on national TV about gun control while attacking Dana whatshername.
This guy is a disgrace to law enforcement.
He should be unemployable. And working in a role that might lead him to testify, seems like no judge or jury should ever trust a word he might utter. Once a liar, always a liar.
You may be right. I’m thinking of the then school resource officer, who lied about his location to the media but then told correct information to other police units.
Still, if this man lies like a rug on national TV about gun control, what’s to stop him from lying about some red light ticket?
dont like the idea of him in law enforcement becouse of the potential for him to eventually be back in a position of authority. that said bad judgment does not mean the person should not be allowed to work he is finished for any law enforcement management if all he ever does is traffic cameras its all right. A man has to work at something.
The pansy was also a major Anti-Gun advocate.
Nothing. He’s a proven politically motivated fabulist.
I think it says something about him that he’s such a liar that the usual cable networks had no use for him so he had to resort to this kind of meaningless busy work to collect a paycheck.
He was the only candidate interviewed for the job out of three applicants
I believe it!
Fitting, Israel signs on to a Red Light Ticket scam for a crooked Municipality.
This guy is a disgrace to America.
