Was taxpayer money used to pay for this “research”? Ok, so they killed some mice, but they failed to understand that lungs are optimized for breathing, and work very well to take in oxygen and expel CO2. The intestines aren’t, and there is no reason why they should be. They have a purpose, and it isn’t oxygen exchange. Also, there is no muscle anything like the diaphragm whose action makes the lungs draw air in and then expel it. Finally, the colon is likely to be ruptured if any hare-brained scheme is tried that forces air into it, and then death will ensue.

Postponing the death by torture of mice does not lead to the justification for hoping that this can work for humans.
