I missed out on a couple of gigs because I refused to join the union. No, I didn't play butt tuba or skin flute.

The only big name was Manhattan Transfer, the rest were just local 'union only' gigs. Didn't bother me.

I wasn’t actually on stage with them.

I didn’t actually play an instrument.

OK.....I was a janitor. I swept up after them. But I hummed some of their songs while I was sweeping.
