Even if You Think Discussing Aliens Is Ridiculous, Just Hear Me Out
NY Times ^ | Ezra Klein

The most curious subplot in the news right now is the admission, at the most senior levels of the United States government, that the military services have collected visuals, data and testimonials recording flying objects they cannot explain; that they are investigating these phenomena seriously; and that they will, in the coming months, report at least some of their findings to the public. It feels, at times, like the beginning of a film where everyone is going about their lives, even as the earthshaking events unfurl on a silenced television in the background.

[snip]

On Fox News, John Ratcliffe, the former director of national intelligence, was given the opportunity to play down the report, which began under his tenure, and he declined. “When we talk about sightings, we are talking about objects that have been seen by Navy or Air Force pilots, or have been picked up by satellite imagery, that frankly engage in actions that are difficult to explain, movements that are hard to replicate, that we don’t have the technology for, or traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom.” Nor are these just eyewitness accounts, made by fallible human observers. “Usually, we have multiple sensors that are picking up these things,” he said.

Perhaps Ratcliffe...is simply hyping his work. But that doesn’t explain why a former C.I.A. director, John Brennan, said in an interview with the economist Tyler Cowen that “some of the phenomena we’re going to be seeing continues to be unexplained and might, in fact, be some type of phenomenon that is the result of something that we don’t yet understand and that could involve some type of activity that some might say constitutes a different form of life.” Well then. They can’t very well just roll out med beds and the AI technology that runs them or a fancy new space propulsion system without a good explanation. That’s my guess.

Whatever is behind this, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

“Tell me why any self respecting alien would come to this obscure planet”

Good question. We have been ‘detectable’ for only around 100 years. The volume encompassed by that is a piddling compared to the rest of the milky way galaxy, let alone the rest of the universe. I have no doubt that however vanishingly small the odds are that all conditions necessary for intelligent life come together in the same place at the same time, it has certainly happened somewhere else in the universe. But to come together at this time in this same neighborhood and also develop the capability to traverse these distances in a reasonable time? That is really a stretch.

The general thinking by the military and others who have been studying this matter believe these craft and beings behind them come from another dimension, not a distant star system.

Do you have a source for this “ general thinking by the military and others “ ?

Luis Elizondo (former head of AATIP of the DOD), Christopher Mellon (former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence), various generals at the Pentagon (one of whom told Elizondo that a cadre of generals believed these things were demons--I can get you a link to a video where Elizondo actually states that), Allen Hynek (deceased head of Project Blue Book).

Non-military types who have drawn this conclusion include Jacque Vallee, Dr. John E Mack (deceased, former of Harvard Medical School), Dr David Jacobs (Temple Univ Prof), Budd Hopkins, many scientific, medical, and psychology professionals who attended the 1992 MIT Conference on Abduction (invitation only).

Unfortunately, you will have to sit through many hours of interviews to understand the "general thinking" of people who have studied this subject. If you decide that is something you want to do, I would be glad to point you in the right direction.

As you can imagine, one has to separate quite a lot of chaff from the wheat to get to the bottom of this matter.;-)

One extra note.

I have personally drawn no conclusion as to what these things are. But I am keeping an open mind.

Tell me why any self respecting alien would come to this obscure planet in this out of the way solar system in this non descript galaxy when there are innumerable others to choose from?

Maybe there aren't innumerable others to choose from.

From just what we can tell from exploring our solar system life is actually quite rare.

Sentient life is even rarer.

“these craft and beings behind them come from another dimension”

That would be...astounding!

You make my point. There are no aliens.

No. I don't.

Rare does not mean non-existent.

Just not very common.

Since there is one (ourselves) there could be more. Just not a whole bunch more.

We are unique. It has taken 4.5+ billion years to get here. Enjoy it.
