Yankees third-base coach Phil Nevin has tested positive for COVID-19 in a “breakthrough” case after being fully vaccinated, the team announced.

Nevin, 50, is under quarantine in Tampa, where the Yankees are expected to open up a series against the Rays on Tuesday night.

Contract tracing is underway, the team said in a statement. Manager Aaron Boone said he expects Tuesday’s game to be played.

The Yankees in early April reached the 85 percent threshold of vaccinated players, coaches and others considered Tier I personnel to be able to relax COVID-19 protocols.

Imagine a virus so dangerous, so viral, there are no, none, zilch, nada biological containment bags to put contaminated facemasks in so to protect the public.

I’m not sure why this is news. It should not be surprising that some vaccinated people test positive for Covid-19, just as many people who get flu shots still get the flu.

At least five New York Yankees coaches have tested positive for COVID-19, sources told ESPN’s Marly Rivera on Tuesday.

The Yankees announced third-base coach Phil Nevin tested positive, and manager Aaron Boone said several others have yet to be confirmed.

The CDC has “transitioned” to only reporting on hospitalized or dead “breakthrough cases.”

When they made that change it suggested they are discovering many more “rare” cases than they originally expected.

-- Yup--you caught the propaganda. --

Another one is "novel." Most people assign something on the order of "rare" to that, but novel virus pandemic is common. About once each 15 years.

This is not what was either implied by the Vax pushers nor ever answered sufficiently by the Vax proponents.

Hi.

“breakthrough”

Last figure I saw was about 3400 (cdc), so far. Why is this a “breakthrough” case?

5.56mm

This is why the flu shot is called a flu shot, and not a flu vaccine. It is false advertising to call what we have a COVID-19 vaccine. Just because Miriam Webster online dictionary changed the definition of vaccine does not make it a traditional vaccine.

59% of COVID Cases Stem from Asymptomatic Spread

By Carolyn Crist

Jan. 11, 2021 — More than half of all COVID-19 cases transmit from people who don’t have any symptoms, according to a model developed by CDC researchers.

About 59% of transmission comes from people without symptoms, according to a new study published Thursday in JAMA Network Open. This includes 35% from people who infect others before they show symptoms and 24% from people who never develop any symptoms.

“The bottom line is controlling the COVID-19 pandemic really is going to require controlling the silent pandemic of transmission from persons without symptoms,” Jay Butler, one of the study authors and the CDC deputy director for infectious diseases, told The Washington Post.

Testing and isolating people with symptoms won’t control the ongoing spread of the pandemic, the authors wrote, emphasizing the importance of universal face masks, hand hygiene, social distancing, and strategic testing of people who aren’t sick. With new contagious variants circulating around the world and in several states, that’s even more important, Butler added.

“Those findings are now in bold, italics and underlined,” he said. “We’ve gone from 11-point font to 16-point font.”

The research team created a mathematical model to analyze different scenarios, such as shifting the peak time of infectiousness. Consistently, the model predicted that asymptomatic transmission accounted for at least half of COVID-19 cases.

Even still, the research team noted that COVID-19 transmission is complex and could vary for numerous reasons. The environment, for instance, could shift whether asymptomatic transmission is more prevalent. People in long-term care facilities and congregate settings may face a higher risk of contracting the virus or transmitting it to others.

“In the absence of effective and widespread use of therapeutics or vaccines that can shorten or eliminate infectivity, successful control of SARS-CoV-2 cannot rely solely on identifying and isolating symptomatic cases,” they wrote. “Even if implemented effectively, this strategy would be insufficient.”

What’s weird is things seemed to be simmering down well prior to the vaccine being released, with most Americans understanding that this is a virus with a 99-percent-plus recovery rate if you get it, and most cases being mild with the exception of people with serious co-morbidities.

Then, for some reason, with the announcement that vaccines were available, the fear suddenly ratcheted back up to 2020 levels.

Of course, everything about COVID is weird.

No problem. Most of the population is vaccinated, and cases are way down as a result. No more mail-in election fraud!

The vax had nothing to do with significant case & mortality decline early January.
