In the last three days, your first dose stat has dropped by around 100K per day. And the “at least one shot” stat isn’t even at 50% of the population.
These stats are also a good indicator of public trust in the media and our other institutions, since they are promoting the vaccines left and right. The results are that at least half of the folks aren’t buying what they are selling.

Nearly 60% of all adults have gotten a COVID vaccine.
Nearly 84% of seniors have too.
Vaccinations continue marching on across the nation. We’ll be at 80% or more this summer, likely before full FDA approval comes. After it comes, expect another surge of interest. Meanwhile, teens are now eligible and soon kids under 12 will be too. Clinical trials are underway all the way down to 6 months old. COVID-19 cases and deaths are trending down and if we see any increases, they should be regional, small, and short-lived.
Israel is about a month ahead of us. They’re averaging 30 cases per day (down from 10,000) and 1 death (down from 100). Only a few places on Earth where COVID-19 is basically beaten and they’re all the places with high vaccination rates using western vaccines (not Chinese garbage). Must be a conspiracy by the lizard people.

To some degree that is just coincidence, and to some degree, they are both effects of getting a lot of people vaccinated already.
Since kids are not eligible for the vaccine (except for co-morbidities), and they play little role in spreading the disease, the adult population matters more than the total population.
Over 58% of adults have at least a first shot - very close to the 60% many estimated would be needed to start showing herd immunity, and that is without even counting all the additional immunity through exposure.
The case numbers are bound to drop off, as the % of the population with immunity rises to these levels.
The drop in demand for first shots was also highly correlated with the pause of the J&J shots. That was a public relations disaster, that hurt all the vaccines.
Yes, I agree. The worst is behind us, and we already have widespread immunity throughout our population - overwhelmingly among the vulnerable elderly.
I think we are 2-3 months behind Israel. They went on a continuous tear, until they got around 90% of adults vaccinated. Our progress inflected to a slower rate after 50%.
We are still getting there (and I think we are already over the hump of replication rates less than 1) - but it is going to take us longer to get to such low case numbers (about 1,000 would be our per capita equivalent, today was 22,000 - exceptionally low for us).
Cases have now been on a down trend about 4 weeks, and it is now showing up in a lowering death rate as well.
This seems to be the final approach of the curve, out of the range of serious Public Health concern.

Novavax announced that they going to delay requesting Emergency Use Authorization, at least until June.
Their shares are down 31% over the last two days.
I haven’t been impressed by their published data, at least compared to the mRNA vaccines.
Unfortunate news. I’ve seen them expand their Phase 3 clinical trials multiple times and I’m not entirely certain as to why. They got hit with a manufacturing delay in October, multiple delays in their Phase 3 clinical trials, and now they’re hitting the problem of new cases bottoming out, which means not enough people in the trials are getting infected to successfully determine efficacy. So the results they expected at the beginning of April are now delayed until at least the end of May.
They have another unfortunate timing issue coming up as well: Pfizer and Moderna filing for full FDA approval. EUAs are typically contingent on there not being an approved alternative. Once Pfizer or Moderna gain full FDA approval, the EUA Novavax hasn’t even filed for yet may not be workable from a regulatory standpoint. They are really finding themselves in a very tight spot. At this point, they should be booking flights for their trial participants to go to COVID-19 hotspots. They need data and fast. (I’m joking, obviously)
But it’s not a joke, the infections in the placebo group is the determinant of the success of trials. The main one.
Shame they weren’t testing in India.
