Hey, it’s Turkey Hunting Season. What a nice day for a hike in the woods.

Neither the wounded hiker nor the hunter have been identified.

Well, that's as much effort that goes into reporting these days.

My first time elk hunting I came across some tracks and followed them. After quite awhile of tracking I could hear some noises around the corner of some rocks. I crept slowly around the rocks.

And there they were! A couple of cows. (Cattle).

No - I didn’t shoot them.

Talk about a let down though! Anticipating an elk and seeing only a cow.

Has Dick Cheney been hunting in Missouri lately?

That’s what you call a (turkey) circle jerk(y).

I was archery hunting for deer years ago and heard a deer coming through a trail in a patch of very thick young pine trees. As it got closer to me, I pulled to full draw, expecting to let it fly as soon as it cleared the thicket.

Ends up it was a game warden crawling on his knees through the thick underbrush. I didn’t shoot, but the look on his face was as though he needed to change his pants. Nothing like a razor tipped arrow aimed right at you, full draw only three feet away.

That same warden expected me to come down out of a tree stand so he could check my license later in the season. I told him he was welcome to come on up and I’d give it to him.

The state game commission, in their infinite wisdom relocated a herd of elk in the forest next to my friends orchard. The bull elk would destroy an apple tree in minutes.

After many calls and no response, he shot several of the elk in his orchard, and called the warden to come and get their dead elk. They arrested him. He sued and won big time for damages, defamation, and illegal prosecution and won a big settlement.

A friend of my brothers has a small farm. He mentioned the nice deer he shot recently.

“Isn’t it out of season?”

“I feed them all year - some of them can return the favor and feed my family!”

It was an accident. Maybe the shooter wasn’t careful, maybe the hiker didn’t know the rules. But it’s just really sad for both parties.

Yes, there were obviously errors on one part or the other. It’s very sad either way.

That was my other guess. Is there really such a thing?

No, not wild, but there are lots of people who raise peacocks on their properties. A friend of mine lives way out in the boonies north of Detroit and his neighbor raises them and they roam free.

My friend has pictures of them in his back yard eating his flowers........Kinda makes his wife mad but oh well......LOL!
