Unemployment is up, far higher than expected. Close to 14 million Americans say they want to work but cannot find a job. At the very moment that unemployment is rising, fewer people are working, American businesses say they can’t find employees.
The United States is currently experiencing shortages of chicken, generators, roofing materials, lumber, ketchup, bicycles, diapers, ammunition, automobiles, plastics, appliances, chlorine, pork and propane tanks. Among other things.

I was born premature and my lungs aren’t capable of overcoming mask restricted oxygen flow to an extant that will permit me to do serious work.

Keep in mind that “not working” and “unemployed” are not the same thing.

I do believe there are way too many RINOs-in-wait.
Simple, in Florida 275 per week unemployment plus 300 from the feds plus every few months another stimulus check arrives, why work for less than 50 per hour. Ya see, even if you make less on unemployment, your days are your own, no getting up, no listening to people telling you what to do, plus you can smoke weed all day again with no one bothering you.
We live in far NE Florida too. Every day I am amazed the number of young people, circa 30, bike riding or walking or just milling about all day. My wife works from home and I hear her grumbling about it as she glances over her computer and watching them go by. BTW, the schools are in here so no one is off from school. These are working age people.

Can’t Biden be impeached for destroying America. He’s breaking all kinds of laws, as in not upholding laws on the books. It’s treason in my mind.
I think it’s the masks too. Why would anyone want to work in a restaurant where they have to wear a masks for hours on end when they can stay home and get paid and not wear a mask. I’m sick of seeing all the servers in masks.

About 45-50 years ago the government had a work program that paid poor people to get hired at companies I worked for. It was hard hot work but they worked! They got paid the regular wage, AND also a Government check.
When the Government check came in they hit the gate and we never saw them again.
Flour for $6???? Where I am, you’re lucky to find it on sale for $3 for a 5lb package.
I remember someone like that. He drew a government check to set at home and do nothing. When the opportunity to make three times what the government paid him, he chose to remain home and let the wife work.
He just could not give up the “Free Money!” even though he could have made more with a real job.
Many companies will hire you in at the lowest paid position, then advance you to higher paying jobs as jobs come open.
Many people want to hire in at the higher position and not start at the bottom.

I see the same. Usually behind some guy standing on the street corner with a sign...”WILL WORK FOR FOOD!”
A lot of minimum wage folks I know, the ones whose families don’t depend on their incomes, won’t go back to work if they’re muzzled.
I have seen some good sales on meat at the local supermarkets.
And I am stocking up.
Wish I could stock up but when your wife is a very selected
meat eater and daughter/grand son are vegetarians then meat
isn’t a large item at our table. But I keep some canned and
fresh sliced meat around.
Never hurts to stock up for yourself.
Do you have a Vacuum sealer?
I bought one and after (mr mm) wondering why I bought it, it has turned out to be his favorite kitchen toy. And stuff keeps a LONG time in the freezer in those vacuum sealed bags.
There is a tremendous shortage of truckers. Businesses all over my town in NC have “help wanted” signs out. Military recruiters are struggling filling quotas. Every tradesperson I know (plumber, carpenter, HVAC, electrical) says it is impossible to find good people willing to work.

Most of those remaining on unemployment are skilled career-level blue-collar and white-collar workers in industries still shut down. Like travel, tourism, events, concerts, conventions etc.
The unskilled blue and white-collar workers have been mostly back to work
Most of the jobs offered are of the unskilled starter wage jobs
Trades? That will take years to make a decent living.
Military? Real useful for those in their 30s and up
Truck Drivers? The $1600 per month training wages for the first few months and the $3000 to $5000 cost of a CDL school is a real downer.
