It’s been nearly a year since Amy Cooper — upset that she had been asked to leash her dog in the Ramble — called 911 on bird-watcher Christian Cooper in Central Park, falsely alleging that her life was in danger.
But such “Karen” incidents have not gone away. If anything, they have become a depressingly regular occurrence. So regular and unsurprising, in fact, that many of these videos no longer go viral.
In the latest such case earlier this week, a 77-year-old woman, a resident of a retirement community in Wildwood, Fla., was charged with launching a racial tirade against a worker at a Burger King

God did not need a woman standing there telling Him how to make Adam.
I work with a Karen supreme. She could put any Karen to shame. She could win the crown in a Karen pageant. The queen of Karens.
This Karen was black:
Leash laws perhaps? Because unrestrained dogs are a nuisance at best and a danger at worst.
I had a woman drive in the wrong way of our one-way private parking lot, park, and just sit there.
Our tiny private lot is a paid lot reserved for the exclusive use of the owners who live in the condominium community. Several times a week, we tow cars whose owners think our lot is free public parking (despite numerous signs warning otherwise) for nearby buildings.
All of the parking near us is metered or pay parking.
Sometimes delivery people or guests mistakenly come in the wrong way, so I waited. She didn’t move, so I knocked on the window and inquired who she was there to see. She became hostile. I advised it was private property and she could be towed. Here comes the Karen label.
Sorry, protecting private property is not a Karen thing, it is our job as staff of the community.
When she saw me calling the tow company, she got out of her car, began filming, and called me all sorts of names. Despite trying to point out facts to her, I was repeatedly branded a racist. When she struck me in the head, I called the cops for assault. I made her aware there were cameras filming everything and she got back in her vehicle, but continued to insist I was a racist.
She was cited for trespassing. She had no right to be on the property, had no business on the property, and acted like an ass while on property.
I wonder how many women who get called Karen were actually intentionally provoked before the filming started.
“The male ones are called Kens.”
I thought it was Kevins.
Damn' straight. Not a sane one in the lot of 'em.
Not what happened by Christian Coopers own statement.
Any reason I should continue reading?
Or Marens.
That’s a bit harsh. LOL.
The truth is sometimes a bitter pill.
In the beginning of time, God created the world and then rested. ... Then God created woman. Since then neither God nor man has rested.
I have commented before that Karen is a new misogynist label for women who are asserting themselves.
Yeah the occasional video shows a woman losing it and being abusive. Usually. I don’t defend that.
But when I ask to speak to a manager I am not being a Karen. I am being ill treated and am seeking decent treatment. That’s all.
Women are often in a position where they can’t win. You go in to get your brakes fixed and get the bum’s rush. You question things and they treat you like a Karen. You eventually pay then your husband is mad because you were an idiot at the auto repair. It’s really frustrating as the Karen meme is a new way to tell us to sit down and shut up.
I have been tempted to let people walk all over me a few times because I am afraid I’ll be seen as a Karen. I have felt bad because when I questioned the price of a drink or complained about a closed bathroom or asked for a different way of shipping to save money I have been treated as a Karen.
No I am not a feminist but I am calling out the Karen insult, I know what it is. The only way to avoid being called Karen is to smilingly let people walk all over you and keep all opinions to yourself.
It's true that you can find the same behavior in people of all backgrounds, but the indignation is seen as righteous among those who aren't White or entitled. They are described as "punching up," while the Karens are usually "punching down."
I do notice that well-off, entitled people are more likely to become furious at things they regard as unhygienic, unsanitary or unhealthy. If you're not as high on the socio-economic totem pole, you have too many other things to worry about.
Also, there are people now who manage to feel both entitled and victimized. Many of them are Karens.
I thought they were “Chads” but “Kens” will do !
Karen = Bitch
I want my rib back and a redeal.
I’ll put it this way - if you’re asking to be treated the same as everyone else, that’s fine. If you’re asking to be treated differently/better than everyone else, you’re a Karen.
Yes.
It’s just that since the whole Karen thing started every time I have a complaint or am voicing a contrary opinion or object to mistreatment I start to feel a “you’re a Karen” vibe.
It’s the way liberal men in particular put women down. They are mostly misogynists but can’t be obvious. So any assertive woman who doesn’t toe their line gets the Karen label. I hate to see conservative men pick it up.
