I never thought it would happen to me!
April 16th, Kiteboarding at Desoto Beach Florida, I fell and when I stood up Bam!! Stingray Barb right in the bottom of my foot!! The bastard got me good because the water turned Crimson around me almost immediately! I made my way back into the beach, wrapped my foot the best I could, stowed my gear in the van and headed to Palm Medical Center near Treasure Island.
Long story short, I got 2 X-rays on my foot to check for pieces of the Barb, a little saline flush syringe, and the Doc glued the loose skin and filled the hole. Told me no water for 2 weeks... I came home!
Last week I got 2 calls from their billing department. the first was mild, but the second one today, was pushy, trying to get me to sign up for Medicaid to pay for the bill. The first call wouldnt tell me the amount. but told me they would send the bill in the mail. Today's call, told me the amount was $8000 and change... I said are you Bleeping kidding my?? 2 xrays, a plastic syringe douche and glue is 8K???? Her response!?? Well if you sign up for Medicaid, they will pay it no problem!!!
I lost it and told her that I think I'm getting ripped off, and i'll be damned if I'm gonna allow you to rip of the Tax payers!!
Now granted, 8K isnt jack in the medical field. but its just the friggin point... How determined the girls were to get me to sign up to pay the bill... friggin Crazt!!
so, I think its a clear case of fraud... who do I lay this on for the best results??

Sir we have a corrupt system.
If you were to sign up for Medicaid then the Taxpayer is paying the bill regardless of what it ultimately gets charged out and/or permitted under reimbursement. So Medicaid would not have paid $8000.
Now under a normal system where health care costs are about 3 to 5% of GDP you could have paid in cash and your bill would have been about $200, now that is fair.
Under the system we have of cost shifting nothing is right, all medical costs are out of Total Kilter and there is no sanity about it.
I can understand why people would rebel and refuse to pay a bill that is Unrealistic under any way you look at it.
The day is going where health care cost will have to fall, because we cannot afford to continue at 20% plus of GDP, wait till Interest Rates are finally forced up, in reality they real cost of money is about 8.5% and I am talking about Treasuries and the Prime Rate.
You are just to cheap to carry insurance, you can work with the hospital to reduce the bill, but I doubt you will.
You are the one who takes expensive SE Asia vacations, has 10,000 dollars in toys and was giving cutting edge emergency care when you couldn’t figure out how not to get hit by a sting ray. You are the one who is willing to screw someone else who had no choice but to take care of you. And now you want to call the shots when you choose not to be a grown up. You spend all your money on fun based on your own comments and want everyone to take care of you, Not only are you apparently an awful kiteboarder, you want everyone to take care of you when you make bad choices.
In an ideal world, someone would confiscate all your toys and use that to pay your bills that you dont want to pay.

My original intent for the thread post was a genuine concern that they were trying to get me to sign up for medidaid to pay the highly over charged costs of the visit. but then I was educated that Medicaid would only pay like $400 bucks on that 8K bill. so it actually sounds like the girls were helping me in a way.
Two of the banks I deal with are merging. (TCF and Huntington)
For about two years I get emails about every quarter from both telling me how I should never discuss my accounts with someone over the phone.
About a week ago guess who calls me.......yep, one of the banks involved in the merger! LOL The caller wanted to discuss my accounts over the freakin’ phone!
When the young lady attempted to verify who I was (last 4 of Social Security number, Mother’s Maiden name, etc.)
I reminded her that her bank told me not to discuss accounts over the phone.
I’m getting closer to Geezerhood I’m not quite ready to send electronic transfers to Africa yet. LOL

Here is some free advice. YOU have means — take care of yourself so we dont have to take care of you. Read the posts explaining who the medical system works and then understand you are part of the problem.
