Yes well written. A bat virus 1500 km away with no infections between Wuhan and the bat caves make it very unlikely it was natural.
It is a long read but the probable virus origin seems not refutable. Excellent well written article.
I’m a bit familiar with Wade from his work in “Science” - he’s not a ‘tin-foil hat’ loon, but rather an established science journalist likely to be accepted as such. And if one reads through the entire article (I read most, but not all of it), he tries to present all three arguments for the emergence of the virus reasonably objectively (those 3 arguments are natural transmission at a wet market in Wuhan, escape of an experimental virus from the Wuhan lab, and natural transmission via bat guano workers far from Wuhan). There’s a lot of ‘Occams Razor’ if you read between the lines, and in my impression, that reading points to escape from the Wuhan virology lab. And if that’s a fair reading, it’s pretty significant given the establishment credentials of the journalistic source in this case.
The smoking gun:

I finally finished Wade’s article, so let me add to my earlier comment.
What’s remarkable (and my mind significant) about it is that it is the first piece I’ve seen by a mainstream author (and Wade is well-established as a significant science writer) that explicitly implicates in detail the Wuhan lab as the source of this damned pandemic. He readily admits that case is not proven, but he also makes clear he thinks that’s the most reasonable conclusion.
Even more remarkably he concludes his article with pointed criticism of the Chinese lab and Chinese authorities (which puts him at risk of the currently fashionable accusations of prejudice against Asians), as well as equally strong criticism of the NIH and Fauci for funding that specific research (and minimizing precautionary limitations), and the mainstream media, for deriding the Wuhan lab story as the product of conspiracy nuts, largely because its association with Trump and their deep antipathy to him or anything tied to him.
I’ve seen plenty of stuff like this from marginal sources as well as nut cases; it is truly astounding to me that someone with a solid reputation in established media would have the guts to put this out. Whether this viewpoint will get a fair hearing in mainstream outlets is another story.

I agree with your comments. This is a long read and it’s very technical and heavy - not an easy read.
However, this is the best single article I have read about COVID and it is also the most important.
The most likely hypothesis is that the same health bureaucrats who locked us down were the ones who funded the creation of this Frankenvirus. What in the hell were they thinking????!!!!
We are going to fund gain of function experiments in an unsafe Chinese lab associated with the Chinese military who actually have doctrine for biological warfare?
What could go wrong? This is beyond scandalous. I have a good friend in the ICU right now who may not make it. 5 kids. For what? So these morons could get funding from the US taxpayer in the form of grants AFTER said research was supposed to cease because it was too dangerous?
