What about US research, since you seem especially interested in diverting attention away from that at all costs?

I don’t have a list sitting in front of me of every gain of function research grand provided by NIH, but there’s been enough published in the journals about it to know that it’s been ongoing for decades with Influenza, SARS, MERS, and others.

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-00210-5 (Jan 2020 meetings to push FedGov to be more transparent about gain of function research)

Previously, gain of function research had definitely been done on SARS-CoV-1 (SARS2003) and MERS-CoV (MERS2012), so it would be unsurprising if further research grants were in place in the US and elsewhere. I have never claimed otherwise.
