I don’t have a list sitting in front of me of every gain of function research grand provided by NIH, but there’s been enough published in the journals about it to know that it’s been ongoing for decades with Influenza, SARS, MERS, and others.

Previously, gain of function research had definitely been done on SARS-CoV-1 (SARS2003) and MERS-CoV (MERS2012), so it would be unsurprising if further research grants were in place in the US and elsewhere. I have never claimed otherwise.
