“.....but can’t take place until the federal moratorium expires June 30.”
At that point it hits the fan big time!
Government didn’t just use COVID as an excuse to crush the US economy.
It also destroyed US society: every facet of work, school, and leisure have been affected. At least half of the population is mentally ill and/or utterly dependent upon the government.
I can't understand how the "moratorium" doesn't violate the 5th Amendment . . . nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. A taking by regulation is the same as a taking in title.
There are plenty of videos you YouBoob that show much worse situations. Search for “tennant from hell”.
I don’t need videos, I’ve seen them up close and personal..............
My daughter’s family has rented houses the last few years from the groups that own thousands of houses. They have gotten much better about giving full deposits back unless there is serious damage. They expect they will have to repaint and such but they are actually very relieved when they tenants have not trashed the home. Of course the big companies can weather those things.
Friends of ours had a rental property in a neighbouring town and swore off renting after after evicting their addict tenants. The house didn’t stand empty for long as the former tenant-now street people-broke back in through the basement window to do their laundry once a week. Other owners I know discovered, after eviction, a fridge full of rotten food and piles of candle wax everywhere when the utility cut off the deadbeat’s power 3 months prior.
That renter needs to be publicly identified and sanctioned.
A friend of ours had appliances stolen, cabinets removed and the water heater was stolen - removed with an AXE to the pipes!
Another friend had a tenant evicted that took six months and when he finally was gone there was human feces and urine all over the floors and walls...................
It’s the one reason I haven’t invested in rentals directly. Instead I invest in REITs that have a fairly high monthly dividend. I don’t make quite as much, but I still do pretty well....and I don’t have to deal with all the headaches.
The idiots who decreed that tenants didn’t have to pay rent are responsible for this. They knew this would happen. The government does not have the right to invalidate the terms of a valid contract. I don’t care who decreed it.
So the trash got the place rent free, and to thank the owner, trashed the place. There is zero chance the owner will get the back rent.
This proves the left hates private property, and is in process of eliminating it. First, they have to keep you from benefiting from your property. They they force you to let others benefit. Then they take it from you.
This is not going to happen. It’s already happening.
Smoke the renter’s credit score to the tune of repairs and headache fee.
Even with detailed review of rental applicants and a heightened ability to judge character..., you can get burned!
Yup—when the government decided that discrimination was illegal, I decided that being a landlord was not going to be on my bucket list.
The eviction restrictions was just icing on the cake.
There are probably millions more like me—and we could have been excellent landlords.
What many folks do not understand about government intervention in the economy is that it affects transactions that could have taken place but will not in the regulatory environment.
Eff landlords.
Was illegally evicted after work from home and then furlough (the landlord seen me working from home and asked why I wasn’t at work. Said it was in violation of the lease to do any at home work.
Gave me a week to leave the property as she already found other tenant. Constantly calling and coming over. (county records say I was the 4th tenant forced to leave after 2 months.)
Lost most of my furniture and personal belongings that I couldn’t send home to the Philippines.
Won a lawsuit of more than $12000 a few months later for the forced illegal eviction (out of court).
Back in the 80s my dad was renting out his duplex. He had really good tenants but then rented to a family that he had to evict. When he gained access to their side he said that the roach infestation was so bad it could have been used in a horror film. The roaches were on the ceiling, under the carpet and every step was crunch, crunch, crunch. He had never known anything like it.
Had several rentals got tired of my life being tied to my worse tenants problems. Now is exponentially worse.
I rented my old house to 2 people over 2 years. Only problems and didn’t make any money, even charging what should have been $400 profit per month. It was always something, and then fixing damages when they moved out.
I sold it as soon as I could after that. People suck. If it isn’t theirs, people don’t give a crap.
I’ve got a lot of them. Some infuriating...some amusing (now).
