In order to give Officer Tsakos a proper hero’s funeral, members of the local community were asked for their assistance in ways that would cost them no money, but would lend a helping hand in creating a funeral that would be fitting for a true hero who died in the line of duty.
Once such place, Decker’s Nursery, in Greenlawn, NY, was asked by the Greenlawn Fire Department if they would be willing to provide a small portion of their parking lot in order to set up an arch detail for Officer Tsakos’ funeral.
The response they got was an unexpected one, when Decker’s Nursery said “absolutely not”, according to reports.
Local sources state that not only did the local nursery refuse to allow the Fire Department the space to pay tribute to an officer who dedicated 14 years to his police department, they went a step further and proceeded to block off their entire parking lot with trucks and person vehicles.

The owner would likely agree with you now, and might have done so if his “knee hadn’t jerked”. LOL
What is funny is the officials that made all the arbitrary decisions about who was and was not “essential”, which never seemed to be logical.
I’ve called me a few times...but no one ever picks up.
They been transformed
I guess for me the question is WHEN did owner contact the fire department. If he did it before the public outcry, then no problem. Everyone makes mistakes. I would continue to patronize his business.
But if he contacted the fire department only after the public outcry, then I think his heart is in a different place.
Translation: watch me as I curt my own throat ... again.
Nope. Too little, too late. Don’t expect a quick response next time they get robbed.
Ok. I’ll buy the apology.
Still wouldn’t buy anything from them, but I think the owner knows he messed up.

Ditto that
Decker’s Nurser finally succumbed to public pressure but it should never have come down to that..............What a shame
It IS kind of the middle of the very short busy season in nurseries...
Out of business within a year.
I now regret sending the scathing email to their nursery without knowing the entire story........
Funny how that works isn't it?
I think you may be right. Pulaski is a pretty main east-west road thru that area. There's no way they would shut it down for "up to two days".

Hmm, not sure I buy this. During the procession, he wouldn’t have any business anyway, because the street will be blocked. They wanted to use part of his lot, not all of it. Seems it would have been good PR to be seen as helping out the police and fire departments. I think he is trying to salvage what he can of his reputation.
I agree. The world has gone crazy.
Ha, ha, yes indeed.
