In order to give Officer Tsakos a proper hero’s funeral, members of the local community were asked for their assistance in ways that would cost them no money, but would lend a helping hand in creating a funeral that would be fitting for a true hero who died in the line of duty.
Once such place, Decker’s Nursery, in Greenlawn, NY, was asked by the Greenlawn Fire Department if they would be willing to provide a small portion of their parking lot in order to set up an arch detail for Officer Tsakos’ funeral.
The response they got was an unexpected one, when Decker’s Nursery said “absolutely not”, according to reports.
Local sources state that not only did the local nursery refuse to allow the Fire Department the space to pay tribute to an officer who dedicated 14 years to his police department, they went a step further and proceeded to block off their entire parking lot with trucks and person vehicles.

Doesn't pass the smell test.
And, of course, if your local P.D. is all Wokey McWokerson, some emblems will be more important than others.
Just following Mike Bloomberg's advice, I suppose.
Not sure what your point is to me...
I agree. Shut the road for 2 days for a 2 hour funeral? I call BS on the owner.
If the local conservatives do not burn them out, it is a missed opportunity.
This needs to be stopped.
What’s a Yelp?
(In reality, I deleted the Yelp app from my phone after I found out they were Left.)
Why does it take 2 days for a funeral?
Pulaski Road will be closed between Broadway and Stony Hollow Road on Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. until about 1 p.m.
Doesn’t seem like a couple days...

Democrats. Marxists. Progressives. All one in the same.
Yelp might be a lefty site. But it’s one of the few places on the internet where you can read (mostly) honest reviews.
This is already done in rural fire districts. If a person is not paid up on their taxes the fire department will only prevent the fire from spreading off the property.
I agree. I thought this would be for a few hours but 2 days?
Also there’s nothing about a funeral that can’t be done at night after business hours.
The police get paid for going to funerals but these small businesses are on the razors edge these days.
Hundreds expected at wake for NYPD officer killed in the line of duty
The headline was recently updated. It originally read "Thousands expected..."
Yelp is a shakedown protection racket anyway. I never trust anything on Yelp.
There are (3) core values in the Decker household and business;
-—Share information willingly and freely. Maintain a sincere desire to help others
-—Do what you say you’re going to do!
-—Operate the business so our message carries forward, in the future.
Funny how Mr. Decker is considered an essential business to remain open. I thought “we are all in this together.”
Doesn’t sound like two full days. It does sound like on heck of a marketing opportunity for the nursery if they had been smart about it.
His comment was honest, admitting he made an initial knee jerk reaction following notice of a road closure decision that would effect his business. He over reacted and could have resolved it quickly by contacting the fire department, which he later did.
