KEYWORDS: todayscryptogram
You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days.  If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

   HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Substitute one word (fail) for the corresponding word in this quote, and I would call the author a plagiarist of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Frankly, that does not surprise me.

Under the wire! Eat your heart out, Authentic!

Today's quote has been attributed to Confucius and Michael Jordan, at a minimum, maybe even Einstein and Mark Twain, for all I know.

I rolled with the punches, I got knocked on the ground.

Less than 2 minutes; the first word gave it away based on letter frequency, as it often does. I totally agree with this sentiment.
Thanks nikos!

Attribution goes to:

Nelson Mandela? Vince Lombardi? Oliver Goldsmith? Ralph Waldo Emerson? Christian Nestell Bovee, Confucius?

In 1760 and1761 a series of letters written by an imaginary Chinese traveler based in London named Lien Chi Altangi was published in “The Public Ledger” magazine of London. The actual author was an Irishman named Oliver Goldsmith who used the perspective of an outsider from China to comment on and satirize the life and manners of the city. Goldsmith later achieved fame with his novel “The Vicar of Wakefield” and his play “She Stoops to Conquer”.

Just curious. How many of you do these in your head?

The reason I ask is that doing so is adding quite a bit to my times - and I no longer know how to rank my success against other people’s times.

Solve them the way you most enjoy and dont worry about time. I stopped posting time very shortly after Nick began posting cryptograms over two years ago now. I often spend way more time trying to find a funny or clever pic or gif clue than I spend solving the puzzles. That is where I get the most self entertainment from, and hopefully share a laugh with others at the same time. :)

There are a few that do these in their head. But the vast majority do not.
