I’ve been to Manila Bay and read the history many times. It was a rout. The Battle of Manila Bay was the unofficial entry of America as a superpower.

My great grandmother's second husband (she outlived four) was a Fireman 1st Class aboard the USS Boston at the Battle of Manila Bay. I used to have his tin cup from the ship but donated it to a veterans museum - my mother kept clothespins in it for 50 years.
He's buried about 30 miles from here and the VFW puts a flag on his grave every year.

Thank you for that magnificent piece of American history! I especially loved where they first came in:

Not until the flagship was a mile beyond the Corregidor was a gun fired. Then one heavy shot went screaming over the Raleigh and the Olympia, followed by a second, which fell further astern. The Raleigh, the Concord, and the Boston replied, the Concord's shells exploding apparently exactly inside the shore battery, which fired no more.

Like Gunny in "Full Metal Jacket" praising Charles Whitman, that was damfine shooting and whoever trained those boys shared that victory.

This modern woke sensitive Navy? What's going to happen when real warriors confront them? They won't be exchanging recipe's or make-up tips.
