Beau has left to move some gravel around with his skid steer for a neighbor. Our Foster Son is here TRYING to paint the house, but we have very gusty southerly winds today and highs up to 84! He’s going to see what he can get done before it gets WORSE, this afternoon. Yeesh! We cannot WIN with this house painting project. Year Three. *Rolleyes*

I am doing some more weeding, but mainly I’m going to re-arrange things in the greenhouse and pot up some seedlings that need it.

I have everything started that I planned on starting - just waiting for the melons and winter squash to pop up.

I haven’t lost a single seedling yet - so there’s that. ;)

My Mom and her gaggle of friends are coming over tomorrow so I guess I’d BETTER make the house look presentable. Everyone loves coming out to the farm, so it’ll be a fun day.

Magnolia has bloomed and is done. Saskatoon Service Berries and Haskaps are blooming. The wild plums this season are amazing and blooming EVERYWHERE - and my domesticated plum is in full bloom, too. (Dwarf Mount Royal)

Next up will be the Crab Apple (Spring Snow) then the rest of the fruit trees and the Lilacs.

Tulips and daffodils are blooming, too. I have cauliflower ready to go in the ground, so if I put some rocks in my pockets to keep from blowing away, I might get them in the ground today, too.

Rain tomorrow - we REALLY need it!

Yesterday was horribly windy here - gusts up to 40 mph. I was going to plant some stuff in the garden, but decided not to since we have some “better” days coming up.

Did you ever get your mower knob fixed?

The fields were knee high in buttercups. Between last night (yard, front field) and this afternoon (1:00 - 7:30), the rest got done. The last 45 minutes or so, I had to pause to get a fleece shirt & a windbreaker. It was really chilly once the sun got low (I was mowing in a tank top most of the time).

AND I did it again - got the mower stuck. The one thing I didn’t want to do, but I pushed my luck too far. I actually got off the mower and walked most of the ground that tends to be soft before I ventured in with the mower, but there was this one little patch of grass that I wanted to get .... one patch of grass too many - getting greedy will get you every time. I pulled the mower out myself with an assist from the pickup truck & 2 tow straps; however, the truck was spinning wheels in soft ground, so I had to also get a long chain(heavy sucker!) from the tractor to get enough length to be on more solid ground so I could pull.

Thursday, I built the largest bird perch in the neighborhood. Actually, it’s a trellis to hold wire panels for cukes, cherry tomatoes, etc. I can move it, even with the wire on it. Since I have raised beds and try to rotate crops, something moveable is what I needed. It is sturdy enough that I expect to see the crows lined up on the top one of these mornings - if that happens, I’ll have to figure out a ‘deterrent’ to put along the top bar. I don’t have a good pic, but will post one soon - the idea came from something I saw in a magazine. I recycled some old wood which is something I really like to do - only cost me for the bolts/washers/nuts - about $7.00 total. So far, I love it - every year, it’s been a hassle to rig something for the ‘climbers’ to climb on - this should last a good long time.
