Yesterday was horribly windy here - gusts up to 40 mph. I was going to plant some stuff in the garden, but decided not to since we have some “better” days coming up.
Did you ever get your mower knob fixed?
The fields were knee high in buttercups. Between last night (yard, front field) and this afternoon (1:00 - 7:30), the rest got done. The last 45 minutes or so, I had to pause to get a fleece shirt & a windbreaker. It was really chilly once the sun got low (I was mowing in a tank top most of the time).
AND I did it again - got the mower stuck. The one thing I didn’t want to do, but I pushed my luck too far. I actually got off the mower and walked most of the ground that tends to be soft before I ventured in with the mower, but there was this one little patch of grass that I wanted to get .... one patch of grass too many - getting greedy will get you every time. I pulled the mower out myself with an assist from the pickup truck & 2 tow straps; however, the truck was spinning wheels in soft ground, so I had to also get a long chain(heavy sucker!) from the tractor to get enough length to be on more solid ground so I could pull.
Thursday, I built the largest bird perch in the neighborhood. Actually, it’s a trellis to hold wire panels for cukes, cherry tomatoes, etc. I can move it, even with the wire on it. Since I have raised beds and try to rotate crops, something moveable is what I needed. It is sturdy enough that I expect to see the crows lined up on the top one of these mornings - if that happens, I’ll have to figure out a ‘deterrent’ to put along the top bar. I don’t have a good pic, but will post one soon - the idea came from something I saw in a magazine. I recycled some old wood which is something I really like to do - only cost me for the bolts/washers/nuts - about $7.00 total. So far, I love it - every year, it’s been a hassle to rig something for the ‘climbers’ to climb on - this should last a good long time.
It was also windy here on the shores of Humboldt Bay today but I rode my little medical scooter out there and made do. My son is going to look into a small used glass bus stop shelter. Grandson moved some strawberry cages to the back of the garden as we have cut back on plants. None of the newly planted potatoes had showed any signs yet but there are 12 or 14 volunteers that are healthy and happy

Beau fixed it. I picked up the part the other day and of course had to take razzing from the shop owner and his crew. Later, they told me it happens more often than you’d imagine and they keep that part in stock at all times. :)
Looks like I need to mow again today, but having company today and rain tonight and tomorrow, so it waits. I’ll just say I’m doing it ‘for the bees.’ ;)
As an added bonus, they dumped 30,000 pounds of manure on the fields all around us - and we had those same winds yesterday plus 85 degrees.
It’s just feckin’ lovely. LOVELY. However, on the bright side, it’s cow manure and NOT pig! :)
