“The COVID-19 crisis has been difficult for Maldivians, resulting in widespread health and socioeconomic challenges.”
The Maldives has a population of 380,000 with 29,000 COVID cases and only 72 deaths. Which equates to 7% of the population contracted COVID with a 0.24% fatality rate. That’s less than the common cold.
So how was this a crises and what was the challenge?

Covid numbers are not all calculated the same. Covid deaths in the US are people who died with Covid, not necessarily from it.

Challenge? Forget Covid: "According to latest studies...at such a rate of sea level rise, fifteen percent of the Maldives’ capital island of Malé would be submerged by 2025" (https://honors.libraries.psu.edu/files/final_submissions/3804) For the record!
