CHICAGO (AP) — The days of paying cash on the Illinois Tollway are gone forever.
The tollway announced Thursday it is permanently eliminating cash toll collections and will accept only I-Pass, E-ZPass or online payments. Customers unable to pay online can pay by check or money order.
The move comes nearly a year after the tollway suspended cash tolls in mid-March because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The tollway also said it will begin a program in May to help low-income drivers by waiving deposits on I-PASS transponders and adding $20 in tolls to people with household incomes up to 2 1/2 times the poverty line.

I guess the Dems think that the minorities who are too dumb to get a driver’s license or other free state ID are smart enough to get an EZ-Pass.
The toll roads (for congestion traffic) in Seattle are automated readers. I got the EZ Pass which was only $5. If you don’t use the EZ pass they send the bill in the mail and add $2.75 to the trip.
A toll collector’s job is cushy? Really? Really? I don’t see a sarcasm tag.
“Cash is legal tender for all debts public and private.” Guess they are striking that one out.
Three of my kids still live in Illinois, and they can’t wait to get out! One of them plans on leaving in 2023, when the private school he works for closes, but his wife works at a public school, and she’s got 10 more years before she can retire, but she can get a job wherever they move. The other two are stuck for a while. One helps his sick dad, and the other one can’t leave til her son turns 18, 10 more years! They HATE Illinois.
The last time we visited Illinois, we just went through the EZ passes, and received a bill a couple of weeks later.
No one travels anonymously from now on...

Yeah. Here in Kentucky we just added a couple of bridges. They are toll bridges and went “EZ-Pass” from day one. We rarely use them but did get the little box for our window because it also works in the Chicago megalopolis, where we go to visit the grandkids.
