Ever since their 2020 event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Burning Man Project has spent months debating whether they could safely hold a gathering at Black Rock Desert in 2021. Today, they announced the the answer is no.
Burning Man revealed that despite the restrictions lifting across the United States as vaccination becomes more widespread, they will not hold their yearly event until 2022. A statement released through their website explained the decision:
Advertisement "Humanity is experiencing collective trauma that is unprecedented in recent times, and while for some returning to Black Rock City may feel like 'the answer,' there is very real rebuilding and healing that needs to be done before returning full force to the desert. The physical, psychic, and emotional impacts of this pandemic are real and the recovery from this experience will happen at different rates of speed. This is the time to gather with our friends, crews, families and communities."

“Humanity is experiencing collective trauma.”
True. American Election theft in November 2020 is very traumatic.
Burning man has excellent leadership and administration in San Francisco and I trust they made a prudent decision. Of course, I think Burning Man is 100% boring.

"They are usually people of means/employed, incidents of bad behavior violence are rare, often alcohol is not allowed, and generally behave themselves."- A death, a sexual assault, an assault with a deadly weapon and a total of 58 arrests are among the incidents officers dealt with patrolling the playa... records from the sheriff's office reveal 14 more arrests were made in 2019 than in 2018...trafficking more than 28 grams of a controlled substance was booked on a felony charge with $500,740 bail...Thirty-two people from California were arrested, including nine from San Francisco, according to the official 2019 arrest report from the Sheriff's office...
- "Rise in larceny calls, with officers responding to at least 10 cases where RVs were looted of cash, credit cards and electronic goods...Deputies are investigating 11 alleged sexual assaults but have made no arrests, largely because of the difficulty of investigating crimes at Burning Man"
- Salon has obtained Pershing County Sheriff’s Office records detailing 62 sexual assaults, including rape and attempted rape at Burning Man dating back to 2002...That number is likely underreported as nationally only 23 percent of sexual assaults are reported in the United States.
- Authorities arrested at least 58 people at this year's Burning Man festival in the northern Nevada desert, a 23% increase from the previous four-year average... a felony sexual assault on Aug. 22, the first day of the counter-culture gathering...An average of 47 people were arrested in each of the past four years, the most in 2017 with 57.

The cancellation did provide an excellent opportunity for some virtue signalling, so there is that.
