Convicting Derek Chauvin was a 'no-brainer' says juror
Sky News ^ | 28 April | By Andy Hayes, news reporter

Finding Derek Chauvin guilty of murdering George Floyd was a "no-brainer", one of the jurors in the trial has said.

Brandon Mitchell said he and the 11 other jurors could have completed their deliberations within the 10 hours they actually took - and might have finished in just 60 minutes.

They did not need much thinking time, the 31-year-old high school basketball coach added.

"For the most part, we did go in and come straight out," he told NBC's Today.

The jury was unanimous in finding Chauvin guilty last week. The former police officer could now spend decades in jail.

I don’t understand why this wasn’t at least removed to a more remote jurisdiction to try to remove some bias?

Methinks this undoubtedly white dude (young, on top of that) likely is flaunting his “Don’t Hurt Me” credentials. One doesn’t often hear of jurors at all even with high-profile trials or even after them.

He wants to show that he was on a jury that did the PC thing, so he’s safe. Heck, HS coach? I’ll bet he doesn’t want to make his favored-demographic teenage students upset.

It should’ve been a no-brainer for Not Guilty since no murder took place.

And yet another juror has mentioned riots and personal safety.

I heard someone say on this forum something like “don’t forget your jurors are 12 people who weren’t smart enough to get out of jury duty”

Makes sense

How would you have voted if you had been on the jury?

I think some of the jurors voted guilty because they know if they had voted innocent they would have been subjected to mob violence, be doxed, etc. I’m sure they voted for their lives.

IMHO, this trial should have been moved far away from Minneapolis.

Those of us on FR who predicted this were right. Maybe talk a little sports or things like that to make it look like an hour was used for serious discussion over a man’s future life.

My gag before the jury selection a few weeks ago was, on the first day of being sworn in, the foreman would hand a note to the judge. The judge would chuckle a little, shake his head and tell the jury: “No, you have to wait for opening arguments, evidence presentation, calling of witnesses, testimony and closing arguments before declaring him guilty on all counts. We haven’t even started yet.”

The promo phrase for the sequel film Dumb and Dumberer was “for these two every day is a no-brainer.”
True of the jurors.

What kind of jury selection was used? Only those who refused to think about the evidence were considered?

Chauvin killed no one. He is a political prisoner.

RE: imho - you’re right on moving the trial. On general principle. But if you think another venue would protect the jurors you may be wrong. The national media and others would hunt them down!

“The former police officer could now spend decades in jail.”

Hopefully the case will be tried again, fairly.

The suspect died of drugs.

Problem for Chauvin: kneeling on a person’s back for nine minutes seems excessive.

"Convicting Derek Chauvin was a 'no-brainer' says juror'

I guess now we know what qualification factors were in jury selection

I saw a black juror on TV while passing by and he was an activist urging all his brothers to get on jury duty.
