Yes. Both.

Obama said you didn’t build the city. The government did.

In Defense Of: Starship’s ‘We Built This City’
There is no defense. One of the worst rock songs I've ever heard. One of the worst songs, period.

I never hated it.. There were MANY much worse songs from the '80s.

Any song that has Grace Slick singing it worth a listen.

“Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” leads to yacht rock and that leads to Steely Dan.
"Yacht Rock" is Christopher Cross and "Sailing". It's not Steely Dan - not to me, anyway.

Try focusing on the drumming in this song. It’s like a 12 year old who just learned how to play. Utterly plodding, complete lack of any rhythm, drive, groove, or inventiveness. Just kind of banging away in the most simplistic, unimaginative way possible. For me, it drags what should just be an insipid, boring song into something completely unlistenable. I don’t think I’ve ever managed to make it throughthe entire thing.

Damn it, this is the second time today this article has been poste.
And it’s the second time today I’ve gotten this bubblegum pop rock song stuck in my head...

I remember Paul Kantner’s reaction, when he was asked about the song. He simply shook his head. Not a bad tune but I grew up in the early days of JA. That was the best.

The only thing I have against that song is that it associates rock music with San Francisco.
When I think of San Francisco I think of hippie-inspired sitar music coming from a room where the door has been replaced by strings of love beads.

I never cared for the song, but I certainly didn’t hate.

Lists of best or worst songs always seem lame to me. Not everyone agrees on what makes a good or bad song. Sometimes it depends on a persons mood as well.
This song has somewhat lame lyrics but it is a very energetic and upbeat song. It is one of those songs where to overall lyrics don’t really matter, but the catchy phrases and “Charged” music make it a feel good song.

Sure it’s a sell out. Aging rockers gotta make money too.
Like the Tubes. From “White Punks on Dope” to “She’s a Beauty”.
