It has been two years since customers were first introduced to the Popeyes chicken sandwich. Since then, every other major chain in America has been scrambling to release its own version of the popular menu item—to varying degrees of success. To be clear, most fast food joints have been offering chicken-based sandwiches for decades, but many have stepped up their game since 2019 by focusing on four basic components: thick and juicy breaded chicken breast, pickles, mayo and/or spicy sauce, and a pillowy brioche bun. Judging on those attributes, The Takeout has reviewed the major players’ new chicken sandwiches one by one. Here are the rankings so far.

Portillo’s is a restaurant chain based in Chicago but is slowly expanding nationwide. Its food is a religion to many. You tube “gabriel iglesias portillos” for more.

I am going tomorrow for the Popeyes. In Florida at least where I am there is no Jack in the box. Had it when I visited Texas. My dad likes their tacos for some reason.

I’m able to separate politics and food, or if we’re being honest, I’m able to turn a blind eye. I find Chick-fil-A’s politics repugnant, but they’re also close to my house, their sandwiches and waffle fries are tasty, and my 3-year-old thinks the same. It weighs on my mind, believe me, but that triangulation of convenience, efficiency, and quality of food takes precedent once you become a parent.But this post isn’t about Chick-fil-A, thank goodness...
Popeyes has a chicken sandwich that I find every bit as tasty of Chick-fil-A, minus the psychic shame...

KFC has upped their game.
They came out with fries, and they are better than this Korean restaurant fries and I absolutely love. So if I want fries and want to stop KFC yeah, but I don’t want fries very often but it’s nice to have an option.
Now up yours.

Don’t much care for fried chicken sammies......don’t like Chick-Fil-A, and the Popeyes sandwich is no better.
If I want a fast food chicken sandwich I’ll stick with Zaxby’s Cajun Club. Chicken is grilled and the sandwich is very tasty.
And they’re overpriced.
Two of us went last year (before I pretty much stopped going there). After dinner I got a milkshake for someone and some extra chicken tenders (4 pc) for me for later in the week.
Combined total: $42. Yikes. For fast food.
First order I had a chicken sandwich combo and 4 tenders - other person had a wrap or a salad.
