A former Oklahoma resident got married and while trying to change her last name on her Texas driver’s license, found out she was a wanted woman in her old state.
“I went to change my driver’s license, during this COVID thing you had to make an appointment, and so, I sent them an email (and) they sent me an email and they told me… that I had an issue in Oklahoma and this was the reference number for me to call this number and I did,” Caron McBride told the local Norman, Oklahoma Fox station.
McBride was bowled over when she called the number and found out she was wanted for a felony.
“The first thing (the woman answering the phone at the Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office) told me was (I was wanted for) felony embezzlement, so, I thought I was gonna have a heart attack,” McBride said.
Online documents show Caron McBride is a wanted woman for never returning a rental VHS tape of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” in 1999.
“She told me it was over the VHS tape and I had to make her repeat it because I thought, this is insane. This girl is kidding me, right? She wasn’t kidding,” McBride said.
McBride told FOX25 she doesn’t remember ever renting the movie.
“I had lived with a young man, this was over 20 years ago. He had two kids, daughters that were 8, 10 or 11 years old, and I’m thinking he went and got it and didn’t take it back or something. I have never watched that show in my entire life, just not my cup of tea,” McBride said. “Meanwhile, I’m a wanted felon for a VHS tape.”
Documents show the movie was rented at ‘Movie Place’ in Norman, which is no longer open.

Truly one of the great moments in television history.
Do the crime, then serve the time.
Last one.

Piker! I took out “1984” when I was 12 years old in 6th grade, and only returned it in 2013. My school magazine forgave me the accrued fine, and printed an article reminding people that it is never too late to seek redemption.
I took the book out in 1975.
Don’t they have any real criminals to go after?

“Whatever happened to the statute of limitations”
I think that because she was charged well within the statue of limitations, she can’t use that defense.
“If she finds it, I sure hope she rewinds it.”
She’s going to have to find a VHS player first.
Well, there our to be a value threshold of its gonna be a felony like minimum value of the rented property of $1,000 or something.
Hang her higher than Haman.
You took out 1984 in 1975 and returned it in 2013. Sounds almost like time travel was involved.
Not back then. It was simply “rented property” before anything like video rental existed. Several states did that kind of felony. It’s pretty much a thing of the past now.
