Gracie Laney thought she was going to win her heat in the 4x200 meter relay last weekend in Logan, Utah.
The Logan High School senior was all alone in the final stretch on the track while anchoring her relay team. The win was hers.
What she didn’t account for, however, was a late entry into the race.
A dog, after breaking away from her owners who were sitting on a hill, sprinted down onto the track and quickly claimed the race for herself in hilarious fashion.

The pooch was dragging a leash the whole way. the lil’sucker made up some major ground. That poor girl probably feels like she did lose, ha!

For over 30 years I often went on multi-mile runs. During that period I occasionally tried and failed to outrun my pet dogs, including some small dogs. When I was running flat out, they would look back at me to see what was holding me up. They weren’t even breathing hard. I wondered what they thought of my poor performance. Probably, “Those long legs sure don’t help him much.”
Are you kidding? Dogs have twice as many legs as we have.
That must have been it.
I played a football game on that field. My best friend took a gas can one night and burned the letters of our school in the end zone grass.
It wasn’t even a greyhound.
