Rare bobcat spotted in Will County is 2nd in last 6 months
ABC 7 Chicago ^ | 21 April 2021

Another bobcat has been photographed by a game camera in a Will County forest preserve.

This rare picture of the elusive animal is from the Sand Ridge Savanna Nature Preserve in Custer Township, which uses motion-activated cameras to document animal numbers and movements.

"Bobcats can have a wide variety of home range sizes, so that won't help either," Blankenship added. "Logically, if last year's photos showed a mother with two kittens, there is a male out there somewhere too. I'd love to get more photos to help piece this wildlife story together."

This is what happens when all you do is chase them up trees with dogs and then let them go. Sooner or later someones child is going to be killed.

They’ve been spotted in Bloomingdale in the last year or so, too.

Back in the day, The Bobcats was the name of a famous 16 inch softball team in the Chicago Area.

For those of you that don’t know 16 inch softball, it isn’t played with gloves and uses a 60 ft baseline diamond.

We have no cats in our backyard as we are on a lake. Everything comes through.

My neighbors’ daughter in New Mexico took a marvelous picture of a very handsome bobcat on her property in Albuquerque using a cellphone.

She had seen tracks before, but never an actual bobcat.

They just shot a 16 y.o. suburban invader in Ohio. But she would be about a two week long buffet for the bobcats.

Yeh, don’t know where these people are located. But, it’s not texas. I live in the DFW are in texas, God Bless Texas. There are bobcats all over the place. Hardly a day goes by that there’s not bobcat videos posted on NextDoor from somebody’s security camera. By the way, do your Google search and you’ll only find a few incidents of a bobcat attack. One was rabid, another was some idiot tried to catch one that had strayed in his garage with a dip net. Another was when a person out walking inadvertently got between mom and babies. However, not only do bobcats eat rats, squirrels, rabbits and such they also enjoy small dogs and house cats on occasion. Also, hawks and owls enjoy small pets for snacks. Bottom line; these predators are thriving and adjusting to suburban life very well.

I lived in Houston for ten years. Saw lots of bobcats and coyotes. Barker Reservoir had some fabulous catfishing.

Bobcats weigh about 15 pounds.
On average, probably - the big tom that waltzed thru my yard last week looked closer to 40 lbs. The pair of dudes hanging below his tail were the size of golf balls.

They are not pets. They are not like pets. They were hunted for a reason, and it wasn’t for food.
