Alternate juror talks about the Chauvin trial verdict and the testimony that "really got to me"

Lisa Christensen sat through every minute of the trial of Derek Chauvin as prosecutors and the defense each made their case in the killing of George Floyd.

She was an alternate juror, so she did not have a role in the verdict, but in an exclusive interview for "CBS This Morning," she said she was happy with the jury's decision to convict Chauvin after weeks of hard testimony. Christensen said she was reluctant to be on the jury when she was first called up.

She was an alternate juror, she did not take part in deliberations and thinks she knows enough about the case to pass judgment.

Well, she saw the same evidence they did.

It is Interesting, but we all know CBS News would not have a juror on who did not confirm to their desired narrative.

She believed Dr. Tobin.

She also didn’t understand the concept of “reasonable doubt”.

She heard all the testimony, but admits to being ruled by emotions instead of intelligence. Just the kind of sucker the prosecutors love to play. All that evidence pro and con and what affected her most was some teenager who felt guilty about not helping. Lord have mercy.

"Das Narrative"

I'll bet that Lisa Christensen also wonders why the cop in Ohio shot that unarmed 15-year-girl...

“During the 13 days of sometimes tense and emotional testimony and cross-examination, both the prosecution and defense promised the jury that they were going to prove their case, but Christensen said only one side did.”

Ummm...it is NOT the job of the defense to PROVE the defendant is innocent. If a reasonable person could DOUBT their guilt, they go free. “Beyond a reasonable doubt” is a very tough standard for an impartial jury!

If there is a plausible way Floyd could die without Chauvin causing it, Chauvin should go free.

In a civil trial, the standard is “more likely than not”. I could see Chauvin losing in a civil trial. But there was absolutely a possibility that Floyd died of a heart attack brought on by his exertions while resisting arrest. That is a no brainer. And if it was a plausible possibility, then that IS “reasonable doubt”!

The face of the Scandinavian Eloi of Minnesota.

When the hoods are rioting outside her house, and she’s cowering in her closet, who ya gonna call? Officer Chauvin?

He’s preoccupied.

All emotion, all the time.

Not a shred of logical thought.

This is how primitives think and act.

Get used to it.

Many just don’t get it. A courtroom is where emotion needs to be eliminated. It’s all about facts. And the veracity of witnesses needs to be weighed. And it is critical to put oneself in the shoes of the accused, regarding what a reasonable person would do under the same circumstances - when we know he did it, but must decide whether he was committing a crime when he did it, and if what he did resulted in the death.

For me this was open and shut once I saw the full body camera videos. I already had noticed in the very first videos that it appeared his knee was not only on his back, but not applying all that much pressue most of the time.

But, frankly, I just think the jury was scared. They really had no choice. If I were a cop, I’d never engage a black person. Those days are gone - until after the collapse.

Exactly.
