The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday is set to approve, for the second time in less than a year, legislation making the District of Columbia the 51st state in a move sure to further inflame tensions between Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
The population of Washington, D.C. is heavily Democratic. As a state, it likely would elect two Democratic senators, potentially changing the balance of power in the Senate, which now has 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans.

The pace of America’s destruction is accelerating.
BULL$H!T.
Legislature packing. 2 more Senators and 1 more Rep.
Prepare for a whole new flag then, because if they have to go through the process of adding a new star, they will say, why not just redesign the flag to better reflect the “New America”.
That’s a part of the motivation.
Evil doesn’t rest. When Republicans are in power, they spend all their time enriching themselves and their patrons, and planning re-election.
Democrats spend their time remaking the country to their liking.
If Joe Manchin or the USSC doesn’t stop this, it will be the end.
I know the knives are going to come out over this, but I thought this wasn’t possible legally; so this is all just window dressing?
They can say it all day long, it doesn’t mean DC will be a state.
You are on to something.
Planting seeds, but it will eventually happen.
The Republic is lost. There is no reconciliation with Marxists and urban savages. Disunion is the only way for us to carve out something that preserves our heritage, freedoms and values. Most anything that forces that separation to a head has a positive component to it. I can think of nothing worse than it taking many decades more for this to play out. The fact is, it’s taken us 5-6 decades to get to this juncture already. It’s time to finish this game and move into the ‘post union’ era.
And then flying the Stars and Stripes will be tantamount to flying the Confederate Flag.
I though the states had to vote on this kind of thing
And ditto if they make Puerto Rico a state.
A state that’s 67 square miles. What a great idea. /sarc
Nope. Approval of both houses of Congress is all that's needed.
The problem with DC as a state is that the Constitution requires the seat of government to be controlled by the U.S. House of Representatives. A state cannot also be site of the national capitol.
A flag containing a star and a crescent moon comes to mind. Yeah, a red one.
