Cruises are set to return to the Bahamas in a matter of weeks, so of course the CDC issued an upgraded warning for travel to the islands. In an update on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website, the organization urges that travelers, both vaccinated and not, avoid all travel to the Bahamas. The CDC’s travel warning is now at “Level 4: Very High Level of COVID-19 in the Bahamas.”
The move is not without reason, however. The Bahamas is currently experiencing it’s worst COVID-19 spike since last October and health officials on the islands are debating reentering lockdowns to help curb the spread of the disease. Of the nearly 400,000 residents of the Bahamas, just 15,000 have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to date.
It the CDC’s updated travel warning, they urge those who have been vaccinated to continue practicing social distancing and mask-wearing for the duration of your travel to the Bahamas. Those who haven’t been vaccinated are urged to avoid travel entirely. If you’ve been vaccinated, there’s no need to get tested for COVID-19 prior to your trip nor is there any need to self-quarantine upon arrival.
Cruise Ships to Homeport in Nassau While the news is frustrating for cruisers, it must be even more so for cruise lines like Royal Caribbean International who have plans to homeport ships in the Bahamas in the coming weeks. Adventure of the Seas is set to begin sailing from Nassau on June 12th.
At the time of the announcement, Hubert Minnis, prime minister of the Bahamas, said “I am especially pleased that Royal Caribbean, with whom we have had a long and mutually beneficial relationship for more than 50 years, selected the Bahamas as a homeport when sailing resumes.”

The Bahamas rely on tourism as a major source of income and cruise ships are certainly a large percentage of that. Any more delays in cruise ships returning to operation in the region is a blow to the islands and all of the people there who work in the tourism sector.
Are Other Islands Next? Cruise lines are also planning on homeporting ships at other islands in the Caribbean as well since the CDC refuses to allow ships back into American ports. Islands like St. Martin, St. Thomas and the Dominican Republic could be next on the CDC’s do not travel list and that would add to the frustration from cruisers and cruise lines alike.
Apparently the Cruise Lines thought they could get some leverage over the CDC by threatening to move the cruise ships to the Bahamas and Caribbean for a cruise restart independent of the CDC.
Looks like the CDC has a few more ways of detrimentally influencing cruising for Americans. -Tom
Ah, the Center for Distributing Crappola speaketh from its Obamahole once again.
No loss imo. The Bahamas is, without a doubt, the most UN friendly of all the Islands. Aruba, Jamaica and Grenada are awesome.
Doesn’t CDC stand for Center for Democrat Control?
I’m sure it does. They think guns are a health problem also.
Why? Is that where all the Democrats are going for vay-cay?..............
I suspect a ruse here.
Milton Waddams wants the islands to be less crowded so he can enjoy his retirement relaxation more. *
*One with the red stapler in Office Space.
The Brits should send over a few hundred thousand doses of their Astro Zeneca vaccine and get this done.
Our CDC might screw up other Islands besides the Bahamas.
The last paragraph in the Article-

The CDC is switching its efforts from destroying businesses to destroying any fun people might have.
I know it’s not the Bahamas, but the wife and I went to Jamaica in October and Antigua in March. No problems at all.
Not sure if this true (only heard it anecdotally) but that outside of the resorts, the Bahamas are kinda run down and have crime problems in areas like Nassau and Freeport.
Is there any truth to this?

Or, CDC might simply demand that those cruising from those ports must quarantine for a minimum of two weeks upon returning to the US.
Good Point!
I am sure the CDC knows now how to make a Cruising experience return to this country troublesome. -Tom
I call it Crap Diarrhea and Crap.
never trust a government that opens its border and distributes thousands of disease carrying invaders across its country during a so called global pandemic...
“The CDC is switching its efforts from destroying businesses to destroying any fun people might have.”
It is already having an effect on the cruise lines.
Read below from a non-cruise source. -Tom
Cruise lines contribute vast amounts to the GDP of the USA. As you know, it isn’t just the ships and crew and supplies but hotels, airline flights, sight seeing, tourism, all kinds of economic activity in the US.

I pointed out on CruiseCritic a year ago that the plan developed by Cruise Line Industry Association (CLIA) to return to cruising had, IIRC, eleven wonderful objectives, not one of which mentioned having a good time.
CDC is only focused on reducing cruise risks to zero and the only way to do that is to prohibit cruising.
From the article: “It the CDC’s updated travel warning, they urge those who have been vaccinated to continue practicing social distancing and mask-wearing for the duration of your travel to the Bahamas.”
IOW, the same warnings they have issued for the United States.
ALL cruisers MUST call their SENATORS and CONGRESSCRITTERS, and tell them to tell Biden to KICK THE CDC’s ASS INTO GEAR!
