(NEXSTAR) – An unspecified number of otters have tested positive for COVID-19 at Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.
A handful of Asian small-clawed otters were tested for COVID at the aquarium after they began exhibiting COVID symptoms, including sneezing, runny noses and mild lethargy. Some began coughing, the aquarium said in a Facebook post.
“They are off exhibit and being cared for behind-the-scenes by our expert animal health and care teams,” the aquarium said.
The aquarium suspects the otters contracted the infection from “an asymptomatic staff member,” despite taking extra safety precautions, and stressed that animal to human transmission is “incredibly rare.”

Our vet stopped doing the ‘stay in your car’ nonsense MONTHS ago.
I couldn’t stand it, as you had to wait for a phone call, to discuss the visit, and the vet always seemed so rushed.
We only had to do that, once, thankfully.
Now, everyone is back inside....some wearing masks, most not.
IOW, their zoo keepers gave it to them and likely to a few zoo visitors.

The test swabs come pre-contaminated to display either a positive or negative. Has nothing whatsoever to do with any material they sample from the testee.

IIRC, in the last SARS outbreak in Asia years back a hot spot cluster of cases was tracked to a common sewage drain fall in a multi-story apartment building.

All of my horses are currently sick. They have green nasal discharge and deep coughs. I keep wondering if they have the Covid.
