Biden’s infrastructure plan spurs discussing of rail service between L.A. and Vegas
KTLA ^ | Apr 18, 2021

Proposed federal infrastructure funding for rail projects has transportation planners taking another look at a Los Angeles-to-Las Vegas passenger route that Amtrak stopped in 1997 and at a high-speed rail line along the congested Interstate 15 corridor to Victorville, California.

The measure might provide funding for Brightline West’s project that would have passenger trains whisking at up to 200 mph (322 kph) on a route generally along the busy interstate, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Do they think that Californians have already forgotten the waste, corruption, and fraud that has been the "High Speed Rail fiasco?

How stupid do they think Californians are that they would fall for the same thing twice?

Oh wait....never mind.

No one’s going to take an Amtrack to Vegas. It feels like riding a SLOW Greyhound.

From North Orange County, I can get there by car in three-and-a-half hours. Not that I want to go there, as it's currently run by mask-Nazis.

The streets of Vegas are already beginning to resemble the streets of LA & SF...

Rapid rail would complete the job...

You still have to drive to Victorville, that’s about a third of the trip and the most congested.

Are you kidding? This is Federal coin. Free money! Feinswine, her husband and all their cronies will be lining up at the trough for $$$. And what do you know, Hunter Biden is a "noted train expert". Maybe Hunter can be the "Train Czar".

The Democrat "infrastructure" rail people seized control of Amtrak's planning process and have produced what they call the 2035 Plan. They are pushing new rail projects all over the country.

They want rail all along the Colorado Front Range, at least from Ft. Collins to Pueblo. One of the dumbest ideas I have heard of in a while. RTD can't get enough passengers on light rail in the metro area, how in the wide wide world of sports can there be enough passengers for intercity rail???

Of course, they have big plans for Cali too, including the aforementioned Las Vegas train. Check it out.

There was a very nice train service from Sante Fe to points south of Albuquerque in New Mexico when I was there about ten years ago.

The one-way fare at the time from Albuquerque to Sante Fe was $8 and it had fairly good patronage.

They will throw a few more billion at it--kill a bunch of cactus in the process.

Total joke....

There is a fair amount of low cost bus service from LA to Las Vegas.

People that travel on public transit prefer cheap.

China built lots of high-speed rail but low-paid Chinese workers prefer the cheap bus instead.

There’s usually not a lot of traffic between here and Victorville early in the morning, when I usually leave. I often have breakfast at Richie’s Real American Diner or Emma Jean’s Hollandburger Cafe in Victorville—or I’ll have a breakfast burrito at the Mad Greek in Baker.

Where? Cypress?

I used to live in Fountain Valley. It was such a beautiful place in the 90’s. Graduated CSULB and loved the women and the weather.

I agree completely, and after breakfast, I would return to my vehicle and continue driving.

The USA is not Europe - our metro areas really sprawl.

Metro LA spans from 40 miles west of Union Station to 40 miles southeast and 60 miles to the east.

In Europe the close-in areas within a short subway ride of high-speed rail stations are generally the more affluent areas.

In the USA, most of the affluent people avoid urban centers and never use public transit.

I doubt that even five percent of LA County residents know where Victorville is and less than one percent could tell you how to get there from downtown LA.

Covid has really whacked public transit systems.

About half the riders will never return.
