Amid a deepening stalemate over financing highways and public transit, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf on March 12 proposed phasing out his state's gasoline tax, the second highest in the nation, and appointed a commission to recommend alternative ways to pay for the state's needs.

Wolf ordered a panel of several dozen lawmakers, transportation industry representatives, transportation planners, government officials and others to deliver recommendations by Aug. 1 of funding alternatives to foot the extra billions of dollars deemed to be necessary.

"Our economy, our communities and our future rely on a strong transportation system that supports our safety and growth," Wolf said in a statement.

Nice, so I can drive into PA, buy gas with no tax and drive right out. Nice!

No Governor. You first. Eliminate the tax as a precondition for talks.

So, PA uses the gasoline tax and turnpike fees for other things, then complains they do not raise enough money.

State Rep. Mike Carroll, the ranking Democrat on the House Transportation Committee, told a House hearing in February that the sprawling expanse of Pennsylvania's highways and state roads has not kept lawmakers from peeling off almost half of the gas tax revenue for other purposes.

That includes 12 cents a gallon to the state police budget, eight cents a gallon to local governments, three cents per gallon to the Mon-Fayette Expressway's Southern Beltway in southwestern Pennsylvania and three cents a gallon to the Department of Agriculture and other state agencies.

12 cents a gallon just to fund state police...

So they can phase out gasoline engines and gasoline stations. They’re moving us from a fossil fuel economy to a faerie dust economy. Everything will run on magic faerie dust in the People’s Republic of the America. Millions of American faeries will work day and night to ensure an adequate supply of their magic dust which you will simply sprinkle onto your Tesla vehicle and then say the magic words “meteslastock beaboomin”. At that time, you will be able to drive from the east coast to the west coast without ever worrying about your Tesla stock, I mean your Tesla car crashing or even slowing down.

EIB TRANSLATION:
Gov. Wolfe, one of our nation's worst governors, wants to increase taxes by switching to a new way to fleece people - say a nice tax on miles driven!

Texas used to do that, too, but they phased it out.

PA’s gas tax ($0.586) is highest in the Nation, followed by CA ($0.533. The author got it wrong.

Yeah, so he can put in a blanket “mileage” tax, with their tracking your every spin of your wheel.

“Tom Wolf on March 12 proposed phasing out his state’s gasoline tax, the second highest in the nation, and appointed a commission to recommend alternative ways to pay for the state’s needs”

“alternative ways” TRANSLATION = ways $ which far exceeds the current fleecing via gas tax.

A while back I saw a story indicating that the Wolfman of Trans-sylvania wants to raise the state income tax.

I am completely for eliminating the state gasoline tax. The last increase was to improve PA’s roads and bridges is a complete failure. That money went to many things other than roads and bridges. With that said, I don’t trust a damn thing the Tommie the Commie proposes. We need to throw him out of office and replace all the RINOs in the state legislature before we going about making tax cuts, that also correspond to massive budget cuts.
