Wawa is going, like, totally ’80s with ‘The Goldbergs

Tease that hair and get out those leg warmers because Wawa stores are being transported to the 1980s.

Not just any ’80s — “The Goldbergs” ’80s.

The convenience store is a regular presence in the ABC comedy series, which is set in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania in the decade of Teddy Ruxpin, Cabbage Patch Kids, the Brat Pack and “Alf.”

In celebration of Wawa Week, marking the 57th anniversary of Wawa’s entry to the retail business, the chain is running a “Goldbergs” promotion. The real-life Wawa in Jenkintown is getting an ’80s makeover, while Wawas in New Jersey and across the country are celebrating like it’s 1980-something.

Wawa Week begins Friday, April 16.

Every supposedly historic show reminds me of the PC world, not the one I lived in.

Couldn't agree more. We watch Adam 12 every weekday. How anyone could believe that all the berzerk social experiments we took hold of in the last 50 years were a societal good, I will never be able to wrap my head around.

Wa (as we call it) was always a reliable stand by when the local hoagie spots had closed (generally after 3pm). The Goldbergs, not the greatest show, but definitely not "in your face offensive".

I used to love The Goldbergs, but once the narrator of the show, Patton Oswalt, began spouting off about President Trump and his supporters, I shut it off.

Yep.

Guy had a lot of prime roles, but when he started shooting his mouth off on subjects he had no knowleged or depth in, had to turn my back on him. I understand the fella's wife died tragically, and I feel for that in my Heart, but it doesn't give a guy carte blanche to say hateful, uninformed things about anyone his hate lashes out upon.

I live two miles from Jenkintown. I’ve never heard of The Goldbergs.

Wawa made reasonable hoagies in the 80’s, plenty of meat, decent price, but now they suck — expensive garbage. They make their money on cigarettes and lottery tickets.

Wawa is the store we love. Wawa has ethanol free gas and their hoagies are great. Whenever I stop for coffee on the road, I look for the Goose (Wawa is Delaware for Goose).

'80's?! "The Goldbergs" is 40s and 50s. Back to the 20s if you count radio.

(near Pulsations, I wonder if anyone remembers that).

Pffftt....I think my high school friends dragged me there. Didn't want to go, and hated every second of it.

Wawa, the 80s and Jenkintown....this show seems tailor made for me, but the second I saw Patton Oswalt's name, I lost all interest. Execrable leftist shill. But Suburban Philadelphia in the 80s was a great time, so I'll just enjoy my memories unsullied.

Was the locally-made ice cream you remember Goodnoe's? They used to have a shop in Newtown, Bucks County....I think it's closed now.

That store is either gone, or going away.
Wawa superstore just down the road by Nifty Fifty’s.
I did electric work there.

Try the Bobby from Capriotti’s if you live in the DE/PA area.

I lived in Newtown, and went to Goodnoe's! Both very nice. Bucks County, very sweet, but expensive. I don't think that was the ice cream in the WaWa sandwiches though.

I too went to Pulsations only once but it was very close to where I lived at the time (I moved pretty much every year as I changed jobs, trying to find a good one). That was the place before Newtown, near the Granite Run Mall.

I found an article on it; the owner said flying saucer drew 700 amps! It's been razed to the ground, and (perhaps) the ground sown with salt. Nothing remains.

Exactly. Hollyweird has a way of transforming pristine memories of good times and nostalgia for the old days into something putrescent.

They can stuff it.

Two Wawa’s in our little south Jersey town - their soups are good, some of their coffees are too - ready made hot dogs in buns are also not bad - they also have “snackpacks” with cheese, crackers and grapes that are good for nibbling any time- have Wawa soup or hotdog practically everyday for lunch......

I ran power to the Boscov’s and Sears at Granite Run Mall.

The Boscov’s wasn’t there yet during my time (1986-’88) but the Sears certainly was. Quite the time. “Peak Mall,” you might say.

The mall is gone, replaced with strip stores and an apartment complex.
I think Boscov’s and Sears remain.

“Wawa” is a Native American word for the Canada Goose that was found in the Delaware Valley over 100 years ago. The original Dairy farm was built on land located in a rural section of Pennsylvania called Wawa.
