Thank you for your ongoing efforts
You’re welcome, doc. (In before the trolls show up)
Directing attention to California on that site.
Last week, same day (Wed) there were 101 deaths. Today 178 deaths. This week to week increase has not happened in Calif since the decline from the peak began early to mid Jan (nationwide).
It’s a pretty steep increase, too. There was talk of a California variant just a few weeks ago and if it’s this bad, there’s not really much chance it won’t spread.
Nationally, the decline week to week today was just 13 deaths, and frankly, if there were not very large declines in Texas and Florida, we would be seeing national inflection (aided by the reality that Oklahoma has reported no deaths since 31 March.
At a press conference they admitted to everyone’s face, no matter what people died of, as long as they tested positive, it’s counted as a COVID death. Yet here we are, posting numbers of people who actually died of strokes, heart attacks, cancer, etc.
About the same time we imported new cases from south of the border
The downward trend is definitely flattening. Behavior is pushing numbers upward while immunity is pushing downward. We might well see behavior push us a little higher as everything opens up. But with so many people now vaccinated or immune, particularly the elderly, we won’t see huge increases in deaths, though we might be seeing a little bump from Easter. As for CA, single day numbers have been outliers too many times in the past. CA Hospitalizations and ICU cases are still down from last week, but flattening like national numbers.
