Sources tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the Washington County Attorney's Office is planning on charging former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter on Wednesday.
The case was sent to the Washington County Attorney's Office to avoid a conflict of interest with the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, which works closely with Brooklyn Center Police on criminal cases. The extent of the charges will be learned tomorrow.
Brooklyn Center Police released body camera video that shows officer Potter shooting and killing 20-year-old Daunte Wright Sunday afternoon.
Brooklyn Center's former police chief, Tim Gannon, publicly stated he believed Potter accidentally discharged her weapon believing she was using her taser and not her gun.
Potter and Gannon resigned from the Brooklyn Center Police Department on Tuesday.
“For now, her career is over, and the lawyer bills will bankrupt her.”

I think Police “unions” frequently have liability insurance to cover at least some of their members’ legal costs.
Here in the People’s Republic of Maryland, the state legislature just got rid of the police bill of rights.
Yes really.
He had a warrant on him for attempted armed robbery with violence. He was also found to have a gun when he was theoretically under court supervision, and he had skipped his hearings. She had every reason to think he was going back to the car for a weapon, and her (male) partner was unable to restrain him physically. She was perfectly justified in the use of a taser.
I hope the FBI building stays safe and Top Golf doesn’t get looted.
absolutely. she was maybe even justified in use of a firearm. My quibble is with the word accidentally. She did not accidentally fire she meant to. She may have meant to do it with a different weapon but the act itself was intentional not an accident. She was mistaken about which weapon she had drawn and no doubt did not intend to kill him but she meant to fire a weapon
I hoe she has something because the attorney bills are coming.
