Lana Clayton said she found her husband Steve Clayton dead at the bottom of a staircase in their South Carolina home. The businessman, who created physical therapy clinics, had been married to his wife for five years when he died.
Initially, the coroner's office ruled Clayton died from a possible heart attack. However, Clayton's nephew, Nick French, a police officer in a nearby town, noticed something was odd about Lana's behavior when he rushed to the mansion to console her.
"She made no mention of attempting to revive him," French tells "48 Hours" correspondent Peter Van Sant. "And Steve always had his phone with him. We were not able to find Steve's phone anywhere."
Concerned about the nature of his death, the family asked for an autopsy and a toxicology test. The blood test revealed an unusual chemical – tetrahydrozoline – in Steve Clayton's blood that would shift the investigation into a whole new direction.

I’ll bet (with their money) if she was made up and in expensive clothing she’d look pretty good.
Red eyes, tho’......
It is hard to believe this is the same woman as the mug shot. It appears she has been plotting to kill him for awhile (I will assumed the crossbow shot was not accidental) and plotting to kill someone takes a toll probably takes a toll on your body and soul.
I stole that line from Churchill once but I replaced "ugly" with "hatchet-faced b**ch". My only excuse is that she had a slightly over-large nose with a slight hook and that we live in fallen times.....
Upon further review, she wasn’t half bad then after all. But something must have happened to her in the intervening 5 years..maybe being married to that monstrosity.
Maybe she thought you were supposed to drink it for sore eyes and was just trying to help him.😎
I listened to the 48 hours podcast on this homicide - very interesting. Title: 48 Hours The Eye Drop Homicide.
Sure....if he would have went to the Institute for the Blind
“If you were my husband, I’d poison your tea!”
to which he responded,
Sounds better the way Winston said it!
This is one of those rare moments in which I’m glad I’m single.
Not that it matters. She wanted his money, not his looks.
Men have beer goggles; women have wallet goggles.
Very long but quite thorough.
Cliff notes version.
She was married once before. He was married 5-6 times before.
He was worth millions and retired at 40, and was now 64.
She tried to kill him once before with a crossbow, shooting him in the head, allegedly accidentally, in the bedroom while he slept.
Yeah, right. Accidentally.
His nephews were suspicious about the cause of death and her story, and asked for a toxicology report which his wife refused to have done. She wanted him cremated right away. The toxicology showed the poison.
There’s far more but that’s the gist of it.
If you’re rich, older than her, and ugly, she ain’t shagging you for your looks.
A gripping story. Too bad it’s true.
If you read her various justifications at the end, what she’s saying in so many words is that she saw him not as an individual person, but merely as a member of a class (men) which class was guilty of historic injustices against her, and therefore she “snapped” and canceled him.
Sound familiar?
Ever get the feeling that getting married to an American woman is highly overrated?
I still want to know about the woman who likely poisoned her husband with fish tank cleaner during the “I hate Trump” HCQ craze.
H-4, C-11
Way outside the No-Go line
He should have kept an eye out for her nefarious plans.
Libs will say that she was his victim and this was self-defense.
