Australian pubs once had a reputation the world over as tough, brawling, hell for leather places where you could get into a fight at the drop of a hat.
Please do not make any Crocodile Dundee references.
The Australian troops have been called Diggers since WW1. A name they take great pride in.
The Limeys were the Brits who got that name from the naval tradition of carrying limes aboard ship to help stop scurvy, a vitamin C deficiency that plagued sailors in the days of sails.
When Winston was at the Admiralty, the Board objected to some suggestion of his on the grounds that it would not be in accord with naval tradition. ‘Naval tradition? Naval tradition?’ said Winston. ‘Monstrous. Nothing but rum, sodomy, prayers and the lash.’
Nowadays, call’em POME’s.
Prisoners of Mother England
Probably KTLA 5 or KTTV 11.
And no poofters!
Interesting. Any other Australian TV shows on those channels?

Not that I remember.
“‘Naval tradition? Naval tradition?’ said Winston. ‘Monstrous. Nothing but rum, sodomy, prayers and the lash.’”
Well...he wasn’t wrong was he?
Many a truth in Churchill’s funny quotes.
My personal fav: “Sir, you are drunk.”
“And you, Bessie, are ugly. But I shall be sober in the morning, and you will still be ugly.”
Another good one by way of Lady Astor..
Lady Nancy Astor: “Winston, if you were my husband, I’d poison your tea.
Churchill: “Nancy, if I were your husband, I’d drink it.”

We recently watched the movie The Dressmaker on Prime. It is set in the Australian Outback. It is a really good movie. The executive producer is P.J. Hogan, a fur piece from Dundee
