Republicans lawmakers urged the Biden administration to issue a new emergency authorization allowing health officials to give only a single dose of vaccines developed by Moderna and a Pfizer-BioNTech partnership “until all vulnerable and essential populations are inoculated, and more vaccine doses become available.”
Their calls, however, largely fell on deaf ears, particularly in February and early March, when U.S. case rates were sharply down from their peak of roughly 250,000 in January.
Tony Fauci, the country’s chief infectious diseases researcher, has argued that there isn’t solid evidence to back a delayed-dose strategy. Even if an initial first dose gives good protection against Covid-19, he said at a recent White House briefing, it’s unclear how long that protection would last.
Beyond posing an unnecessary risk to individuals’ immunity, Fauci has also warned that pivoting midway through the vaccine rollout could send the message that there’s no need to return for a second shot, whether it’s three or 12 weeks after their first.
Fauci has also warned that delaying second doses could help foster the growth of “escape” variants, or strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that are more likely to evade existing vaccines’ protectiveness.
Other countries have already employed the delayed-dose strategy, with varying results. It has been highly successful in the United Kingdom, which has deployed the tactic with Pfizer-BioNTech’s and AstraZeneca’s vaccines, extending the interval between doses there to 12 weeks. Already, 47% of citizens have received at least one dose. Though only 7% of the population is fully vaccinated, daily case rates there have plummeted from roughly 55,000 in January to barely 5,000 today. In the U.S., by contrast, 31% of the population has received at least one shot and 18% are fully vaccinated.

Can delaying the dose be of benefit in terms of side effects not being as strong? Allowing body more time to adjust between the doses...
That’s what I’d like to know...
I had no side effect from my 2 Pfizer jabs. I was a little worried because I had very unpleasant side effects from the Shingrix vaccine => 24 hrs chills, malaise, aches.
So their brazen attempt to coerce the public into being injected with a experimental vaccine that was rushed to market has been successful enough to create a shortage? CRazy!
Hey, maybe if they didn’t PREMATURELY expand vaccine eligibility to HEALTHY, YOUNGER age groups who have vastly less likelihood of serious or even symptomatic COVID-19 disease there would be less problems with the older, less healthy groups getting needed appointments.
I know someone who didn’t get the proverbial side effects from 2nd jab until little under 2 weeks after the injection...(Which is around the time max immunity is supposed to kick in.) And I’ve heard other similar testimonies.
“the country’s chief infectious diseases researcher”
You can tell a lot about the author when you read that description.
When oh when is someone going to flush Fauci?
Fauci has been WRONG about everything regarding the Fauci Flu, NONE of his predictions or Statements have panned out, he has changed his mind on EVERY Issue multiple times.
NOBODY shoul;d Listen to anything Fauci says about the Fauci Flu and he should be banished from the country
I the past year, I’ve had Shingrix #2, Pneumovax #2, COVID #1 and #2. In all cases, I just got soreness at the left arm injection site and a bit of swelling / hardness there, all gone less than 24 hours.
I have not seen any reports about side effects being less (or more) from delayed second shots.
Since some places have delayed second shots, so it might be possible to mine the data for a comparison - but it would probably not be controlled for different variables or reporting systems.
I worked as a Hazmat Officer for ten years in charge of a big city Hazmat Team. I have had ten times as many vaccines as most people in my life and never had any complications and very few times when even my arm got sore. A week after my mother got the first Moderna shot she went from very active and going to the YMCA every day to an invalid who can’t make it from her bed to the bathroom without assistance. She has lost so much weight that she looks like a little death camp survivor and she cries and says that she is in so much pain that she just wants to die. These shots are not safe for everyone, and in many cases are most likely much worse for some individuals than getting Covid itself.
I’m am so sorry to hear about your Mom! I hope she gets well soon and gets back to her normal activities.
Sorry to hear about your mother’s difficulties.. Please keep us informed.
“Those ol’ people are just gon’ die anyway! It’s those young people who’ll be paying my social security.” - paraphrased from Joyceln Elders in the 1990s when she urged healthcare rationing and soon found herself out of a job for telling Democrat secrets.
Anything to continue to delay this shit and prolong this crap
I always tried to stay away from sloppy seconds.
Her joints swelled up and she lost all of her strength. But the most severe issue at this point seems to be a problem with her kidneys... he breath smells like ammonia. Whenever I ask her how she is doing on the phone she says she thinks she is getting better, but every time we see her in person she appears to be worse. She has been to the doctor multiple times with basically no treatments that have appeared to have been helpful. Autoimmune disorders are not uncommon in our family but until now my mother was not one affected.
Oh, and thank you very much for your well wishing!
