Ecuador to choose between socialism and free markets in presidential runoff

QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuadoreans on Sunday will choose between a conservative banker and a left-wing economist in a presidential runoff that follows months of debate over whether the country’s economic malaise can be best treated through socialism or market-friendly policies.

Polls broadly indicate socialist Andres Arauz, a protege of former President Rafael Correa, with a lead over rival Guillermo Lasso, with many showing a quarter or more of the electorate either undecided or planning to spoil their ballot.

A victory for Arauz would further consolidate a string of leftist electoral victories in South America in the last year, while a win for Lasso would leave Ecuador in the political and commercial orbit of the United States as he seeks to create jobs through foreign investment.

Investors are closely watching the outcome because Arauz has promised to renegotiate the terms of a financing deal with the International Monetary Fund and to vastly expand social welfare spending despite precarious state finances.

“The hope of all Ecuadorians is to move the country forward, but we have doubts about who should govern and what plans you have to apply to get it,” said Javier Guevara, a 25-year-old student in the city of Guayaquil, who remains undecided.

“I’m afraid to choose the wrong candidate and have their plans sink us further.”

They will vote for the socialists, destroy their economy and then head north to the USA to do the same thing here.

Leftest are just like locust cockroaches, destroying everything in their path. They are already here, by the millions.

.....whether the country’s economic malaise can be best treated through socialism or market-friendly policies.

What continues to amaze me is the fact that the people of these "third world" countries will do whatever it takes to come to the prosperous USA for a better life. It never seems to occur to them that their own country could be just as prosperous if they just emulated our system.

But like Maximus says, they will come here and try to make our system the same as the shithole country they came from. And they have Democrats leading the charge.....

With such a long history of proven failure one wonders how the left still manages to fool so many with their lies.

Their lies are coated with free honey, everyone else spouts intangible platitudes.

The answer to that question is very simple.

A large percentage of the voting population are stupid.

If half of the population are above average intelligence. The other half are below average.
In addition, most people are not critical thinkers. Math is hard for them. They make decisions based on the way they feel about something(liberals).

There are four basic personality profile types: Driver, Amiable, Persuasive, Analytical. Within, those four are the four subsets of each. I am a Driving/Analytical. My former boss, who started my company was a driving/driver. Most of the best salesman/traders I work with are Persuasive/Drivers. Engineers tend to be analytical.

Amiables tend to make decisions that can be easily swayed by other types. These people vote.
