years ago as a poor young man I was walking home two or three days before Christmas when I found five dollars on the ground in the parking lot of the mall I worked at. I was struggling financially and thought how fortunate I was. I then proceeded to ask god if he could send me a little more money this being Christmas time.
Five minuids later walking home I glance down and spotted an envelope envelope. I bent down and picked up the envelope inside 500 cash. I felt luck tand immediately thought of what I can do with the money.
I then looked at the out side of the envelope and discovered on it 4 Spanish names and after each name 2-3 words I could not totally read but thought they might be Spanish names for difrent toys.. I then realized that my finding this money was not a gift from god it was a lesson.
Finding this lost money meant that a parent was not going to buy Christmas presents for there kids. I started home with my brain stuck on the fact that I had found 5 hundred dollars and was not happy about ending up with it.
About 10 minutes later I see a young woman crying and looking in the streets gutter. I ask her if she lost something. She speaks to me in Spanish a language I dont speak. I have no idea what she is saying but assume I assume that this envelope is hers. so I hand it to her and her reaction is one that tells me I am right.
Lesson of this incident is that finding lost money is not a blessing from god it is a responsibility and duty given to who ever finds money.
The only money that is ever yours is the money you make by the sweat and toil that you do to earn it.
okay just today I found 3 dollars left in the change slot at Fred Meyer and returned it to the clerk....
Very wise words.
Out in Ca one time on a business trip I found a wallet in the parking lot. I managed to contact the owner when back in the hotel. Later I met him in the same parking lot and he wanted to give me a $20 as a reward which I refused. He was Hispanic but the odd thing was he didn’t seem too happy about getting his wallet back and reacted as more annoyed than anything else. I walked away feeling kinda weird from his reactions. Hey whateverrrrr hombre.
I once found a single dollar bill.
I kept it. I might be evil.
I like your story and would have done the same because you got to return it to the owner.
Taking it to the police...? I’m not so sure about that.. I think I’d try to locate the owner myself.
I was in a bar and found $200 in the ATM - I asked around until I was pretty sure whose it was.. I handed it to the guy and said “that couple over there said you were the mast one to use the ATM - is this yours? He said yeah she took it.. Not only did he not thank me - he didn’t even interrupt his conversation to make I contact with me...
Well, it IS a blessing from God, in that we get a chance to do the right thing. But yes, it is a duty.
