Regarding wasting a tube of horse paste: Does anyone know how long it lasts once opened? Can one use half of it over a week or so and then use the other half in 3 months?
I can only tell you what my Vet said about a med my dog takes. She has digestive issues and I keep Cerenia around for her. She doesn’t take them often so they expire before I use them all. He asked if I had any and I told him I did but they were expired. He said don’t worry about it that they are fine. He said they can’t sell them past the expired date but they are good for a very long time past.
I don’t know if that applies to the paste or not but I figure it applies to most meds. I plan to use mine. I’d say the paste is good after opened at least until the expired date if not past because not all horses weight 1200 pounds. A pony might get two or three uses out of a tube. A lot of people give it to dogs for heartworm prevention and use the tube until it’s gone.
Sorry, that’s all I know. I’m in farm country and I can promise you farmers aren’t throwing it out.
It comes in a syringe-like tube with a hard cap so it can be closed tightly. Divide 1250 by your weight in pounds and that’s how many doses you’ll get for yourself from one tube.
