According to Carl Jung, there is a resounding “yes” answer to that question. Mind, Cjung is oft-quoted by Jordan Peterson and seems to contribute a philosophical basis for some of his positions.
It was surprising that YouTube would allow a video that clearly condemns the collectivist “philosophies” of the 20th century like those implemented by Nazi Germany, Soviet Union, Nkorea, China, Cambodia, etc. They have been pretty thorough of late in purging any information that disagrees with their political position. Anyhoo, what caught my eye was this quote: “. . .the totalitarian systems of the 20th century represent a kind of collective psychosis. Whether gradually or suddenly, reason and common human decency are no longer possible in such a system: there is only a pervasive atmosphere of terror, and a projection of “the enemy,” imagined to be “in our midst.”
Thus society turns on itself, urged on by the ruling authorities.” Ooh, an enemy in our midst. I wonder who that could be in today’s America? Someone quite pale of skin, I suggest. Anytime one of “them” speaks out the first response from the ruling authorities is “racist!”.
As to how this can come about in a population there is this: “A population first needs to be induced into a state of intense fear or anxiety by threats real, imagined, or fabricated and once in a state of panic the door is open for either the positive or negative reaction to unfold.
If a society is composed of self-reliant, resilient and inwardly strong individuals a positive reaction can take place, but if it is composed of mainly weak, insecure and helpless individuals a descent into the delusions of a mass psychosis becomes a real possibility.” All in all, the video is kinda dry. But, there is supposed to be a series. I hope to catch them all.
