(Reuters) - Baseball fans packed the stands of Globe Life Field on Monday after the Texas Rangers opened their doors to 100% capacity, making the game the first North American sporting event without attendance restrictions since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The team said it was a sellout, with 38,238 in attendance under an open roof on a sunny day at the Arlington, Texas, stadium, the only one in baseball to allow full capacity after Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered the state to fully reopen last month.
Television cameras showed most fans not wearing masks, which were required at the ballpark when not eating or drinking.
Abbott also ended the state's mask mandate last month.
President Joe Biden and officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have warned against holding events with large crowds out of fear they could create a super-spreader event.

So much for the boycott of sports. Americans love sports and probably always will. As far as trump getting eyeballs, it was great but that’s the past. Will he get them in 2023? Time will tell.

Probably a lot of fans had tickets before the idiotic, unAmerican edict from MLB. Plus, most tickets were comped.
The stadium will now go back to 25% capacity & the team sucks.....so, good luck with that, Rangers 🙄
And, they seem to be negotiating with the CCP, maybe to play some games in China? So, the MLB is going the way of the NBA.
Major League Baseball has partnered with communist China. In this instance there is not a big jump to Nazis and communists. They are after your freedom. Wake up! That’s where Major League Baseball and most sports in general are taking us these days. People in the stands are completely ignorant of it. And obviously some here are too.
